When I was working, and poor, I used to stay in five star hotels as part of the job. The early morning foray to raid the room service trays left outside rooms was always rewarded with a few tit-bits for my own use.I always knew I was council and this confession only confirms that suspicion.

When we joined last year I wasn't expecting Harrods. I thought it'd be full of small shop owners like newsagents and PH style company directors buying Red Bull, Frozen sausages and catering sized containers of Bird's Custard along with a set of premium brand winter tyres for the MX-5.

I went yesterday and it was full of no marks, dole poles, scooters, benefits buffet bingers and I think even a contingent of peripatetic people.

The car park was littered with blue late reg Vauxhalls and pick-up trucks with words like "Animal" "Barbarian" "Wife Beater" "Roid Rage" and "Rapist" written on them.

At around 1pm there is a pie van - yes, really, a PIE van, that comes round. This in itself isn't so bad (they're nice pies), it's doubtless a Leeds thing that comforts them while they watch their football team slide ever further down the pan.

However this bloody pie van has a massive speaker and plays the fking A Team theme - you can hear it miles off. I think it's extremely council and not really appropriate outside a hotel and a load of offices. Not sure if pies are council up north though.
