Copenhagen - recommendations
Discussion
Hi All,
I'm taking the other half to Copenhagen for our anniversary in a few weeks, its somewhere she's really wanted to go to for quite a while. Flights and hotel are already booked but looking for recommendations of things to do and places to eat whilst were there.
Thinking of ticking another place we want to see by going over to Sweden for a day, what else would be worthwhile going to or seeing?
Thanks.

we had a great time in Copenhagen last summer,
visited the following:
botanic gardens - lovely and nice cafe
visit the lakes - nice in the evening
design musemum - good visit, nice courtyard cafe
Nyhavn - "too touristy" but still pretty - better resturants elsewhere
observatory - nice tower in the centre - great views from the top
christianshavn - kind of worth a visit, felt a bit subdued and sad really - remember no pictures
nice parks slightly outside of the centre - locals get beer and have picnics all evening - as you prabely know beer in bars is v. expensive but cheap in the supermarkets
Nationalmuseet - big museum with lots to see
finally, the little mermaid statue - dont bother, just look at the one in the airport - its basically the same

As a Dane, I can agree on most of the above mentioned, unfortunately, I am from the main land, so I do not have that many recommendations concerning Copenhagen.
But, because I am a nerd. I would say, if you are interested in machinery. Go wisit http://www.dieselhouse.dk/en/
It is a very old VERY big engine with a lot of history from WWII and onwards.
Christiansborg (the parliament, http://www.christiansborg.dk/) where the underground ruins tells some history about copenhagen, and a roundtrip in the upper halls to see the gobelins is a great and relaxing getaway.
https://laglace.dk/ - there is allways room for a cake break.
Popular cafe in the middle of the city is http://www.ptt-museum.dk/en/cafe/cafe_hovedtelegra... located on the very top of the postal museeum.
Tivoli, the famous garden, but expensive. (I would rather go to bakken in dyrehaven north of Copenhagen http://www.bakken.dk/ )
AVOID Ida Davidsen, (http://www.idadavidsen.dk/cms/Velkommen) it is know wide for being for the tourists and those who don't know better.
The newspaper Politikken gave it 1 out of 6 hearts ( http://politiken.dk/kultur/madogdrikke/restauranta... )
Otherwice, come to Jutland. Skagen, Svinkløv or Aarhus (Where I am from) is worth a visit.
Chek out this tread for inspiration:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
And http://www.visitnordjylland.com/ln-int/north_jutla... <- My favorite part of Denmark, but hey, I am a nature kind of guy.
Have a nice trip.
Best regards
Velo

If you're one of the many who fail to get a Noma reservation, then make sure you go to Amass.
It's owned and run by the ex Noma chef de cuisine and is in renovated shipyard building. It runs on similar ideas to Noma but a bit less left-field. Lots of ingredients grown outside and sourced as close as possible. Staff are fantastic and every member of the kitchen (including Matt the owner himself) comes out at least one time to explain each course.
It's out in the industrial estate but worth the journey over. Undoubtedly the food press and the Michelin brigade will be flocking so go before it becomes impossible to get a table.

Sorry for not posting for a couple of days, been away with work.
Thanks for all the suggestions and recommendations, especially ecotec and DkVelo. and will certainly look into the two restaurants.
Would it be worth hiring a car for a couple of days to see some of the other places or is everything easy enough to get to/see with pudlic transport?

If you are staying in the Copenhagen Area only, a car would not make it easy'er for you to get around. Thanks for all the suggestions and recommendations, especially ecotec and DkVelo. and will certainly look into the two restaurants.

But if you wan't to see more of Denmark, it could be an idea, worth it depends on what money are for you.
If you wish to experience the country or just more than what copenhagen has to offer. A car would be a good choice to get around.
Feel free to mail me direct at Velo[a]godmail.dk for more precise suggestions conserning mainland and Aarhus visit.

That sounds like a good plan. Jutland has a lot of attractions to offer as well as copenhagen.Aspecially nature and historic sites. (Including Unesco sites) and if you are in a hurry, you can easily get from one end to another in half a day. You to are welcome in my inbox, if you have certain wishes, I will then do my best to give an honest advice.

If you're adventurous types, this is well worth it :

Noma used to have a reservation thing on their website for cancellations, got to be in it to win it !
Your hotel will have a limited number of bikes to borrow, let them know now just in case you miss out.
Point the missus in the direction of Illums Bolighus if she's into Scandinavian style and interior bits and bobs. Don't let her into Royal Copenhagen unless you're willing to sell a lung. It's like Wedgewood is to England, only it's things you'd actually buy .... If you were that flush.
Lord knows where the best bars are, I tiink it changes every 6 weeks ....
.... I live in Oslo, but Copenhagen pulls it's pants down on all fronts, apart from the price of a flat pint of gnats piss
