I have a 1999 93 convertible that has developed a problem when closing the roof.

Most of the operation is completed up to the point where the hard plastic tonneau should lower.
It doesn't and soft top failure comes up on the SID.

You can sort of jiggle it and encourage then it will complete the close but I don't know where the problem lies in order to fix it.

Any clues where to start??

It's the intermediate or fifth micros witch, located behind the passenger door and accessed by the rear quarter trim panel. Fiddly but doable, a switch will cost quite a bit though. Be worth checking the fluid level in the motor first though jic.

Does it only stop there or does it stop at random at other parts of the open/close?

Just wondering of it is a Hydralic fluid issue, they are easy to top up and the cause of many a roof failure

Mine took 22 switch pushes to get it down and 14 to get it up (oer missus!) but after topping up the fluid goes straight down and up now.

I have covered the top up in my reader's car thread:

It will fail in the closing operation when the plastic cover is 90' vertical. I've heard it's the microswitch in the rear that will work if "bashed" around the trim panels behind the driver. Yet to do this as I'm away from the car this week.

Fluid level checked - found to be low.
Fluid level topped up - satis.
Functional check carried out - satis.

What a PITA putting the pump back - too many cables getting in the way.
Anyhoo, all done and is much quieter in operation.
Hopefully there is no major leakage and this job will last for some time thumbup
