Solihull OPC have just called me to ask for a deposit on the GT4. I asked if the car had been officially announced and was told no but Porsche GB have told OPC's that they can take deposits. It could all be hype?

The deposit of £3000 was non negotiable.

Has anyone else been asked for a deposit?

Out of interest who called you from Solihull, no one has called me and I was told I was #1 on the list. I did offer a deposit last year but was told no need but i have bought several cars from them in the past

Not yet...

Did they say if the deposit was non-refundable? I have to say, I'm a little hesitant about placing a deposit down without any indication of price or spec.

Deposits are refundable.

One thing you should be clear about is that placing a deposit will NOT change your position on any list. E.g. If there a 5 people on a list and only two have given deposits, if the first depositor was 2nd and second depositor was 4th before they placed depositis, they will STILL be 2nd and 4th respectively.

Therefore placing a deposit does nothing but move your money, your intent is the same as a non-depositor and if they are above you in the list they will be offered a car before you.

This is the process and I have been through it with a number of OPCs. Though you may get treated differently if you are a very special customer...

Porsche cannot take a deposit on a car which is NOT on the system

A dealer can take you for it though, it has nothing to do with Porsche, it will sit in the dealers bank till 4th Feb when we are told it should go on the system.

after the 4th I guess you will be removed from the loi list onto the paid deposit list and if you don't pay up you are deleted.
all places still stand as long as you pay up on the 4th I guess, but a lot of people WILL not pay up as it seems a lot of people have their names down at more than one OPC !!! (bad form) but dealers are going to want to know quite soon now who is serious.

MY OPC said they will ask for the 3k a week before the 4th and it's refundable, just to speed things up.
as come the 4th or 5th I would like to be able to place a full order on the OPC system and then it's 10% deposit.

Bournemouth told me the complete opposite. Karl said they had LOI's but no deposits and that if I placed a deposit, I'd jump to the top of the list and be guaranteed to get their first car.......

I asked the salesman at Solihull what had changed. His reply:

"We were told late yesterday by Porsche GB that Boxster/Cayman GTS will be discontinued very soon to make way for the GT4. Because of this our management is now allowing deposits to be taken, as this is first time Porsche has officially acknowledged the new model." 15 Jan 2015.

Please remember to take what a SALESMAN tells you with a pinch of salt.

They will make the order that suits them, not you.

Guys, do you think Cayman GTS prices / depreciation are going to be hit bad because of the GT4? Slightly concerned as I've got mine coming soon and a part of me thinks I should of waited for the GT4 but didn't want to commit because I didn't know price / final spec etc.

So have you 'nailed your colours to the mast' then and are definitely getting one?

If so, what swung your decision as I thought you wanted to wait for an official spec before deciding.

My OPC has said they will ring me on the 9th Feb for the deposit. That's at a Porsche owned OPC

Epic... One OPC did this to me too and played on words saying "If you put down the £10k deposit it will make you the second depositor and give you the strongest possible chance of getting an allocation." I was 8th on the list and 6 months later when I called for an update it turned out I was STILL 8th and that "Putting a deposit down doesn't change your place in the list - that would not be fair". So what's the point of a deposit then LOL.

A good OPC won't ask for a deposit until the car is officially announced. Perhaps that is an aspiration!

Really, I thought the GTS was a model in the standard range now. Was not expecting it to be discontinued. Some people on here have been quoted October build dates. I would be delighted if they did limit numbers but are Porsche special editions in danger of becoming a bit like the MX5 ones where there is always a special available of some type just with different options?

Have read many different threads on new 911's new boxters and new caymans and people getting different information from different OPC's regarding the need for a deposit or their place on the list or even the spec of the car they are ordering I have come to the following conclusion - Porsche salesman know fk all and will do all they can to get money out of a customer!

From my experience of ordering Porsche over the years it matters jack st whether you have a loi, what number you are on the list, what deposit you have paid and whether or not the OPC is Porsche owned or not. It is the DP who decides who gets a car and when.......yes

Too right!

I have had them back on the phone now talking through finance and GAP policies! WTF - jumping the gun a bit - which I told them politely!
