Basically, when I put the foot down in my car the car revs up a lot higher than it should. It does it in every gear. Just wondered what the cause could be and is it an easy/cheap fix or is it knackered? It's done 134k and been well maintained. Any help would be appreciated

Not sure that you are making much sense. Do you mean the revs are going up faster than the road speed, i.e. the engine revs but the car doesn't go any faster? If this is the case the clutch is failing.

Yes that's pretty much what happens. When accelerating if you put the foot down the revs suddenly fly up but the car hardly accelerates at all. So this could be the clutch? Will a whole new clutch be needed or is it repairable? Thanks

sounds like you're needing a clutch. and you will need a whole new one.

New clutch needed and good chance it will also need a new flywheel.

Possibly, possibly not. I'm not sure that these have a DMF do they?

OP, clutch replacement is relatively straightforward, albeit not terribly cheap. I would expect you to be looking at around the £250 - £400 price range, based on what it cost my brother to do it on a similar era Passat not too long ago.

Yep, sounds like a clutch. The whole of it will be required, plus a new DM flywheel if it's marked, blued, loose or outside axial travel limits.

Constructing a frankenclutch like the Spanish tuner below isn't sensible eek The cover in this '600hp' build would be an example of what not to reinstall too.

Strength and integrity aside, there's no way that's properly balanced, not with random blobs of weld like that on the joints. Having said that, even simply aligning the clutch centrally on the spigot would be a major challenge.

Probably balanced with plumbers solder and aligned with a whittled down broom handle, judging by the other practices in this shop.
