Hi all,

I noticed recently that when accelerating in 3rd-4th-5th gears, say with revs initially around 2k mark, I lose my gear indicator on the console and the revs fly up without any power/speed increase.

Always seems to be when I hit the 2k mark and then push the accelerator pretty far - any idea or thoughts here? Dodgy clutch/leaky oil?

Lower gears seem unaffected and higher gears only really affected when the revs are low and I floor it.

Appreciate any wisdom or advice that could help in a pre-diagnosis!

Thanks,
Andy

Sounds like you need a new clutch as the clutch is slipping. It's a standard test. When travelling at a moderately slow speed and in a high gear, you floor the accelerator and if the revs rise without a noticeable rise in speed, it means your clutch is slipping.

Muchos gracias. Was suspected but always a sucker for a group opinion.

To the garage it goes.

Is it an automatic?

Nope, just have the gear indicator/shift suggestion turned on.

Ok thanks, just wondering about the gear indicator. I had a B6 1.8T manual and no gear indicator on that one.

Let us know how you get on with the new clutch, hopefully it'll be a good fix.
