Just planning our roadtrip for September which includes Monza and looking for 2 places to stop at on the way home from Milan to Calais. Have been thinking of somewhere like Aosta or Chamonix for the first one and then Dijon for our final night. We've done Courmayeur and Troyes & Reims so would ideally like somewhere different.
Any thoughts?
Thank you

Not very far in, but Turin is a great place. A bit further along maybe Montreux?

If you go the north route, we also enjoyed Colmar & Basel

Bit of a diversion, but Varenna on Lake Como is lovely

Thank you 2smokinbarrels for your many suggestions! Have already done Colmar but will certainly have a look at Montreux.
We are doing Lake Como on our way to Milan, was thinking of Bellagio but would you recommend Varenna?

This is a very rough plan so far:-

Courcheval has been a stop for us on similar trips, also Beaune instead of Dijon is lovely with some good hotels and restaurants. We've also stayed over in Annecy a couple of times which is also beautiful.

Bellagio is more blingy. Varenna is a ten minute boat trip around the peninsula. We go to Varenna every other year & just love it. If you are into gardens & a castle I'd say Varenna wins. (and you must do the ferries to Carlotta & also hire a speed boat!!)

I'd recommend Tremezzo on Como. That way you get to look at Bellagio across the water. We stay here and have done some five/six times now. Great restaurant.

Steph suggested Beaune earlier. We also liked it there.

I'd be avoiding France as much as possible, and going through Germany. We stayed in Rothenburg for a night on the way back from Austria last year. Lovely medieval town.

Wonderful! (Have you ever noticed that the mountain in your shot is actually 2, and the peak of one fits perfectly with the plateau of the other?)
