M62 - 50mph temp speed limits for months, ive not seen them do any work on it yet.

A556 - Reduce the speed limit to 50 on a pretty much straight road is dam stupid.

Then put it to a temp 40 while they build this new road is bloody bananas. Fair enough if they are working on or near the road itself but ffs they are working in a field not anywhere near the dam road.

Surely I cant be the only one that thinks this is crazy. Who the hell makes these decisions ?

I have 2 routes into Manchester and they've decided to "work" on both of them at the same time, well thought out eh?

M60/M602 is a nightmare in rush hour.
East Lancs is a nightmare in rush hour AND they've now closed the A576 at the East Lancs end meaning everyone has to turn off earlier or later which takes bloody ages.

50mph limits on the M62 are in place until 2017 as well I believe. It would be fine if I saw any actual progress, however I have seen absolutely nothing around here (Prestwich / Whitefield)

Probably still going through the sodding healthy and safety briefings.

Same here, anyone driven through Runcorn lately? There is work going on in connection with the new bridge over the Mersey, the expressways which have been 60 for years are now 40 for much of their length, despite most of the restriction being nowhere near either work or workers. The Daresbury Expressway is almost entirely 40, the Western Expressway is 40 at the southern end including a long stretch AFTER the roadworks going in the opposite direction! If a road has historically had a certain limit and that road doesn't change where's the justification for reducing that limit to two thirds? FFS.

That 50 zone on the motorway goes for miles and flipping miles, whats wrong with lowering it for a few miles which your actually working on.

I'm convinced they will make it a permanent 50 mph limit on the surrounding Manchester motorways! Bloody hope not. It seems to take an age to get anywhere lately .

That Daresbury expressway stretch was murder in the 3 months before Christmas, seems to have eased up a bit since they have finished the roadworks outside Daresbury labs. I think the 40 zones will be in place until the bridge is done, which will be fun. Can't wait till they close the expressway completely and re route it through astmoor...

I honestly can't say I ever really struggled in traffic around the M62 at rush hour. The odd occasion, but that was usually down to some idiot having an accident at rush hour.

However, I used to commute from Prestwich to Northenden everyday and never really spent much time in traffic and that's basically going 1/2 way round the ring road. To get there for 8:30/45 I used to leave at 8 ish.

Now though, it seems to take forever to get anywhere! An if this is what we have to look forward to. I can only see people getting pissed off. Especially when they just leave the limit "accidentally" set low when the road is empty.

Is it actually 50 now, or that and some?

I know it is/supposed to be, but while I (and about 50% of others) do about that when possible, there does seem to be a decent proportion of people who take what seems to be a somewhat cavalier attitude. Are they now getting busted, or is the average 50 actually a fair bit more confused
Seen sheds and nice motors doing anything from 60 upwards, even a lorry (albeit not a UK reg'd one).
