Havung bought my E60 m5 from knights almost 3 years to the day and finally about to pay for it outright,I'm now in a position to sell for a couple of reasons,I've only covered 17k in the 3 years which has to be fair kept them big service bills at bay but in the next 12 months of ownership I'm looking at 6k conservative estimate in rainy day money which I'm struggling to justify despite having the rolling monthly extended BMW warranty which costs £90 a month but I wouldn't recommend ownership without IMHO , what did shock me was , I paid 21k for the car 3 years ago and looking around the forecourts nothing like this exists for the money anymore,I have been offered 12k at the dealers px,but only having a budget of 28k including px and a little finance I'm looking at best M135i or a rep mobile

Is keeping and running the M5 not cheaper than getting another car? Even if it is a bit more expensive, is it not worth it?

I am in the trade and have contacts. What parts bills worry you? I can maybe help out with things such as brakes, pads, clutch, flywheel and oil if you like.

I would have thought so. WTF needs £6k spending on a car that's done no work! yikes That's bonkers (if I'm reading your post correctly)

But we don't know how old the car is now and it's total mileage..? Wasn't bought new..!

I thought from the title that something awful had happened!!

I have no idea how you're arriving at £6K, but if you think your car will need some money spent on it, why are you surprised by the dealer offer?

You paid too much for it in the first case, so it's not that much of a drop in reality.

You might wish to try Eastern BMW to see if they'll take it off your hands.

If I were you, I'd look into lease deals, perhaps with maintenance built in.....some cracking deals are out there.

What could possibly cost you £6k out of warranty?

Brake discs & pads all round = £1,200
Tyres all round = £900
Spark plugs & oil = £800

After that you'd be good for a long time, I'm pretty sure changing cars is gonna cost more in dealer spread and depreciation.

There's no surprise here surely ?
High running costs and further steep deprecation were inevitable.

All you can do is look at the bigger picture and smile at the fact you have been driving an exotic V10 about for not much money. Not many people will ever get to do that.

WTF is your problem?

Have M5, paid for.

Have money to put on top of the M5's value for a different car, yet don't want to keep that same money either in the bank, or allocated for maintenance?

Your problem isn't with your car chap, its psychological!
This guy's got it. Keep the m5, that model is an exceptional car.

It would seem you are panicking over something that has not even happened yet.

If you have a rolling Warrantee , keep the M5, you obviously use it very little anyway.

Well that's going off BMW prices, I think it includes microfilter and air filter too. Haven't had to do the plugs yet but I'd imagine you could get it a bit lower from and indy and/or supplying your own parts.

Sell car privately for more than £12k. I will prob pay more than that if it's under warranty.

Then buy a mercedes cl63 amg for c.£23k.

Cost to trade perhaps £10k.

Nothing wrong with that!

Hahahah

Devastating? Really.

Get some perspective. You have a £90/warranty. What do you need a £6k rainy day fund for?

Are the Cats covered under the 90/month warranty? On the M6 these were 5k+ from a BMW dealer.
