OK, is that the only difference with the alloys ?

On another similar note, I have noticed that on some of the cars I have been to look at the blue disk in the centre of the wheel appears to be been scuffed or the the blue colour going streaky or running leaving white lines in/on it, is the a common thing that happens ?

As above, its quite common on the front/rear Ford badges too.

The major thing to look out for is cracked cylinder liners - which are terminal. There have been a few unscrupulous owners though that have chopped in cars rather than take the hit, i know of at least 6 cars that went to auction with cracked liners. A quick session on google will provide the symptoms.

Other thing is oil filter diaphragm. The diaphragm in the filter housing can split, which will stop you driving the car. Replacement housing is £150 and it can be fiited on your drive if you can get the airbox off.

I rather liked the patina my boot badge acquired with age. It sort looked antique rather than knackered. Wheel centres went crappy just like the OP describes.

I stand ready to be corrected but I believe that the facelift alloys have slightly thinner spokes, as in they are physically different.

As others have said go for a late 59 or 10 plate ST3. Plenty of optional extras thrown in - rear privacy, vis kit, auto lights, wipers, DAB, climate, etc. I had an 07 then chopped it in for a brand new 59. Best cars I have owned/driven for all round driving experience. Only issue I had was with the facelift - driveshaft can start to 'click' on pull off. This was fixed as part of a recall.

If I go back to doing less mileage then I would consider another.

DAB wasnt standard, mines a 2010 '10' & doesnt have it even with the sat-nav & reversing camera.

When was yours first registered? What colour are the wheels (assuming original colour - MY2010 model came with black as standard)?

It may be the case that the sat nav head unit doesn't have DAB, however I am 100% sure that MY2010 cars had DAB as standard. I might still have the spec sheet from when I bought mine.

Mines registered 30/06/10. The wheels are silver but black was standard at that point silver a £200 (or so) option. Took a while to find the car as I wanted silver wheels with performance blue body & sat nav with reversing camera.

According to Ford ETIS, I don't have DAB.
