Swmbo has managed to have a disagreement with a car park ramp kerb this morning, and pushed in a dent on the sill of her Mazda 3.

Does anyone know whether this would be easy to pull out please?

It should pull out hopefully I think, though won't be a smart repair/dent removal job. I suggest going to a good local body shop & saying you aren't looking at using insurance & see what their best price is?

Such small incidents can be mildly annoying to say the least, though I guess no one is hurt & pride can be recovered at some point wink

I've got one in my car though not as bad as that -king and shallow. No one apart from me has ever seen it but it bugs the life out of me! I asked a dentmaster guy (who's very good) if he could get it out. No chance he said.

Bummer, I'm going to have to live with it. A good bodyshop will get yours out no problem.

Thank you both for your wise words. The wound hasn't caused any holes in the metal so hopefully rust won't become an issue. I suppose my main concern was whether it would cause any issues for the MOT which is due in a few months.

Will ring up a few bodyshops and dent repairers next week in the Bedfordshire area.

Many thanks!

They'll possibly use a slide hammer on it. Could use the key system I guess but probably cost more money.

You'll have no MOT issues with that. A mobile dent repairer won't be able to do anything with it but a body shop could do a perfectly good job with a pin puller.

Search out a bodyshop with a "Miracle Stud" or similar repair system, they're fairly common and that would be an easy repair with one. VW Panels on Ampthill Rd in Bedford are one but there's plenty around.

Thanks again everyone, reassuring to know that it shouldn't pose any problems for the MOT.

Paul thanks for the recommendation, that's not too far from us so hopefully we should be able to drop by and let them have a look at it.

So just to round this one off, we took the car to VW Panels in Bedford who have quoted £450 and 3 days to pull out the dent. Quite a bit more than I was expecting! I spied on the initial appraisal form the term "dog leg", not quite sure what it means but the gent did mention that there would need to be ramping and welding involved.

We also asked our local MOT-only place for an opinion and they have concurred with the collective wisdom here that as there are no sharp edges or evidence of rot, it should pose no issues for the MOT test.

With that in mind, we're probably just going to leave it as it's not worth spending ~8% of the value of the car to resolve it, only to have someone else open a car door into it in the future.

Thanks again everyone for the advice.

That does sound a fair whack, did you ask them how they would repair it- I'm guessing they're wanting to put a new sill on?

Sadly we were reeling a bit from quote to ask for a technical explanation. My fuzzy memory is of the words "hot weld" being used.

I would quote that at £200 to £250 max, use a pin puller on it, half of it is covered by the sill cover anyway.
