Decided this year that I want to go to Lemans ( read, wife said ok) are we too late though?

Will we be restricted to the dregs of the campsites or paying bills that would run a front team?

Should be fine via an agent. If your wife is coming, as it reads as such, the private sites available via the agents are worth the cash in any case, purely for the ablutions!

You're fine. The latest I ever booked was late May. Ended up in Beausejour on the wettest year ever and it was still awesome.

Don't get too hung up on the "perfect" campsite and crossing, it'll be memorable whatever. smile

i think you can still get the cheaper sites direct from the ACO or the tourist office

Yep Mrs is coming, indeeed decent stters will be welcomed.

She's fussy about stuff like that.

Approximate prices? Will have a proper look during the week, I am way too busy this weekend. Seen a couple of packages for 2-3 hundred per head.. about right?

Oh you know, just the normal. Seat warmer, someone to wipe one's ahole and a cuban for after. Nothing fancy.

One more (stupid) question.. does a pitch include car space? My tent isnt small.. worth getting two spaces?
We'll probably get there early friday or on Thursday, likely issues?

Ps i was looking at private camping on speedchills before, hence pricey

We normally go in a Range Rover and our tent is a large 4 berth and 1 plots enough. Each plots 35m2 so depending what else your taking you should be OK. We'll be camping in Houx this year (Bought from Gumtree) as its toilets and showers are that bit better than eveywhere else and most of all the is electricity hook up available (hence the price)so we usually take a fridge with us.

Going on Friday is a wee bit late, most of us will have been there for some time by then, if you have an allocated space you will find it there but i suspect everyone around you will be right up to the limit or slightly encroaching on you, the sites are pretty full y Thursday so empty spaces can often get filled up by those around who are short of space, they will move things when asked nicely. The showers and loos are OK on most sites but busy at certain times. As stated camping tickets are per car and not per person so if on a budget go for the ACO sites and save a fortune

We've arrived Friday afternoon for the last three years and never had a problem on the PH site. On Speedchills this year and will be arriving same time.

Main draw for the private sites for us is the food (which was disappointing last year on PH compared to the two previous years hence switch to SC) as the food around the circuit is truly awful.

If you are taking SWMBO, a site with private well cleaned loos/showers will probably save an expensive divorce. I've been with PH/1st Tickets twice & whilst the food was not as good in 2014 (we take the catered option for brekkie/supper), we've been assured it is sorted for 2015 & they won't take as many on the site. Our site also has security within a gated/fenced site which gives peace of mind & small things like loo paper & air freshner. Do some homework & get a booking made as soon as you can & if in doubt ask on the Forum for thoughts on campsites/operators. Also consider whether to use the tunnel or an overnight ferry from somewhere like Portsmouth....the journey from Calais is great fun on the way down though can be a schlep going home due to the distance. We now go Portsmouth/Caen & it saves a few hrs drive and we now have a good non autoroute solution to take in more of France & avoid the plentiful tolls.

Can`t say that I have ever stayed on a SC or PH site so I will not comment on these. Toilets and facilities now in Garage Vert and Houx are now fine especially in last few years that loos are cleaned regularly by contractors, at least until Sunday. Can`t really see how a freshener makes it cleaner. Look at it this way the cleaners don`t make them filthy!!
As for food, there are a couple of places inside the circuit that you can eat a reasonable meal and not be paying anymore than you would in Blighty.
As a preference I try to get to Ruadin for a quiet meal or in to Arnage, food is good, company is brilliant and many bars have live music during the week.Tram runs towards town and there really is such a selection of "eaterys"on the way. Good luck whatever you do....................and enjoy.

If your Mrs is fussy, pay the £200-300.

You get clean bogs, with seats and paper, hot water in clean showers.

Cheaper? Well it's your sex life for the next few months fella.....

Looking again, speedchills private is 350+ each although that includes general admission and ferry. I'll be getting ferry separately, get discount at p+o through work, so maybe I should chat with them.

Lovely wife was ok at isle of man for two weeks last year in a tent although we did have a very civilized campsite, maybe too civilized. .

Hope to have some time on Monday afternoon to phone around, left this a bit last minute but the will is there.

Food and drink is important. What can and can't be brought in?

Not been on the private sites but the facilities on the more expensive ACO sites are i am sure as good as any, we stay on TR and the fencing and security there is very good the security fencing is about 8 foot tall there all year and not a hastily errected affair like those around the private sites. OK so you have to do your own cooking/serving of drinks but hey if linen table cloths and water service is what you what then the BBQ smell, overlooking the race track and the cheerful people on the ordinary sites will not be for you

As with most things you get what you pay for. You can camp off site or on both have there plus points.

Some sites can be OTT, and others offer security good for you and your car safe.

Plenty of people on here, with good advice Beermountain another site for advice.

Just found this, there is a restaurant/bar 2 mins walk away, and a swimming pool. You could dump your wife at the pool while you go to the track.

What are you? First you tout your tickets which gets removed by the mods, then you bring them back on your above posts in an underhand way, now you are pushing a local gite. Either pay to advertise or go away.
