The beam lights on my 2006 XC 90 stopped working yesterday. I have checked the fuses and the bulbs all of those seem fine. The car is running fine and the dipped beam lights work perfectly. That when I pull the stalk to switch them on two main beam nothing happens I cannot flash the headlights and we beam indicator light on the dashboard does not illuminate.

The headlight on off switch is in the correct position i.e. headlights switched on and switch in vertical position.

Does anybody have any idea why my beam lights have stopped working?

Might the column switch itself??? Have seen this happen on Fords in the past so I guess not unique to them.

I'd go with this - sometimes the contacts in them need a good clean and lubrication

Thanks I wondered if it could be the switch.

Any tips on how to access/remove would be very welcome

Cheers

Just to close off this topic and in case it helps others, the problem was indeed the switch in the stalk that had failed.

I bought a second hand one on ebay, swapped it out, and all is good.

When I took the original switch apart I found that a small plastic locating lug had broken off one of the internal mechanisms.

Thanks for the advice.
