looking to replace the tired stock suspension on my mk4.5 estate. now i understand that the billets B8 and eibach pros is the the chosen route to go down but at nigh on £900 its a bit more than i want to spend for a taxi.

any other suggestions for a more cost effective option?

OEM isn't far off that if you buy genuine Ford items. I went with Eibach and B6's on my 55 plate Mk3 and it was well worth the money. If your car is just a tool to get you from A to B though, I wouldn't bother spending any money at all until you need to.

thing is i really don't mind spending cash on it if its justifiable. just £900 for shocks and springs for a taxi seems excessive.

somewhere nearer £600 would be nice

You could do Bilstein OEM replacements and Eibach springs for around £600 if that suits you better.

eek, just got a very reasonably price for a Bilstein B12 kit with Eibach springs, (sub £700)

sorely tempted to pull the trigger

That's a good deal. Fitting cost me £300 for my bits, the bolts were seized on the rear shocks though and they had to be drilled out!
