Not at all. One of only two cars that looked good with three spokes.
I think I'd even prefer the 3-spokes to those

Yes, I know its a lot for an old Audi and yes I know it won't be that exciting to drive......

.........but I really rather like it;

They were £3k for a decent one a few years back. These days a heap will cost you more than that. Back then they were a viable alternative to the usual Impreza Classic but these days you'd have to really want one to justify that kind of outlay.

Regret not scratching that itch when I had the chance. The one I drove was remapped and running Bilstein suspension and a V8 Torsen centre (?) diff, and actually handled really rather well. Sounded incredible at full chat, built like a tank and really shifted above 3k RPM.

Crap brakes though.

Had a 2002 M5 slide past me on the M40 this morning. Carbon black with what looked like individual champagne leather. You forget just how right BMW got it with the styling, stance etc of the E39. Made me want to hunt for a third one! smile

Talk to me Loon. Any good? And what on earth is WVTA?

Wow - that looks good and that didn't come up in my Elise searches a couple of weeks ago. I like the Sport 190 S2 you've got, too, Loon - looks like an awesome car.

By the way, the dealer has gone quiet on that Cat D elise 160 from a few pages back. As time passes, I'm also starting to think that if I go down the Elise route, a good 160 is the way to go, so I think I've mentally moved on from the cat D "bargain".
Be quick I'm off in a couple of weeks!!

Also consider an s1 111s. A little less peak power and perhaps less instantly attractive (not as low, I think?) but a very well-behaved engine compared to the 160.

I was thinking on the weekend, the E39 turns 20 this year, doesn't it?

Sensible suggestion. The S160 just looks and sounds so right though. Especially in Scandal Green like that one above lick

I agree but with the original 14 inch wheels you can't fit decent sized brakes. I think 15 inch might look more in keeping with the shape.

I've got a set of the Mondeo 16 inch 5 spokes stored that look like Escort Cosworth wheels but are narrower. They look ok on these Fiestas.

Best all round S1 Elise is a 111S imho but a S160 would be the one I would buy. So much character, look and sound fantastic, rarity and just the whole feel is special.
