I've got a Performance Car magazine in the loft (Clarkson era) where the Virage was in their Car if the Year test and JC was rather fond of it

December 92 issue supplement

Clarkson placed it 1st ( it was his nomination ) but the others put it, at best, 7th, 8th, 9th or last out of 10.

E34 M5 took the overall honours that year in the whole review

Any idea where Brian Laban placed the E34? I seem to recall him being a bit disappointed in them when compared to the E28, although that may have been the 3.6

He was also the sole voice pouring praise on the 964 RS from what I remember

I don't recall many period road testers that did. Too harsh, too nervous and too twitchy was the general consensus IIRC.
