Sigh... what would one need to pay for a pre-73 these days... not a concours / mint example, but a good usable car without a massive rot problem. 2.4T say, they are the cheapest aren't they? A few years ago this would be a £25k proposition... what are we talking these days?

Chaps,

I need suggestions. I have...not so much a problem, more an ...opportunity and you are the only people stupid enough to come up with a suitable answer.

I find myself gloriously, wonderfully and fortuitously unemployed next week. I lost a week in ending one contract and starting another and have therefore, gained myself a week off quite by accident and I've just realised therefore Ive nothing planned.

I have a week free.
I have a kick arse motor.

Hit me with your best Sea To Shining Sea, Its Not What You Do but How You Do It, You be You and Ill be Me black Lambo-esque ideas.

Here's some for you chap;

Tuesday 7th - Goodwood Trackday (Classic Alfa) - should be a great blast down there through the lanes, watch some italian fodder being flung about for a few hours and then lunch at The Kennels followed by a run down to the South Coast for an ice cream.

Rest of the week -

Visit a couple of classic car dealers ie JD Classics et al to drool a bit
Maybe a day or two in North Wales to experience some great roads, scenery and tranquility
Head to Brooklands - fantastic ambience there and some amazing machinery (wheeled and winged) to ogle

Quiet day for the thread today.

I'm quite liking this

The description suggests it drives well, and I quite like the fact that it's still on rubber bumpers. For the first time ever, I'm starting to appreciate them.

GT86s are starting to creep under £15k. Here is one for £16k that looks good on more attractive 17' wheels. 3 years old, 17k miles. Add a supercharger if desired for £5k and it's a very appealing package for £21k all in.

But far more interesting is the ex-Le Mans car hiding in the GT86 classifieds! laugh

You've lost me?

That second quote isn't mine, is it?

Are you saying there are more than 2? I think there maybe as another one appeared on this thread (or perhaps another thread) for sale on here.

The guy who sold me my 545i Touring reckoned it was 1 of only 8 left. But does that mean in SE trim or what? It doesn't bother me so I haven't bothered to check.

Cheers bud, I was just confused smile

'Numbers' is an interesting game. Are there 2 in silver, 2 autos in M spec... Probably not easy to find out?!

All I know is that 545/550i Tourings are very rare and I can confirm - glorious!

I already have no idea what I could replace my 545i with as by the time it needs replacement, there will be a serious, serious dearth of low mile, large engined estates left frown

Everything will be smaller capacity and turbocharged. I'm hoping that someone has a low miles 550i Touring somewhere in a couple of years or maybe a V10 S6 Avant.

There will be a few low mileage V10 M5 E61s around, I'm sure.

On paper they sound great. The first 545i I ever saw was a Touring at Silverstone and it was Tiff Needell's. We're talking 2003/4 in se spec. I test drove one about 6 months ago and it didn't really grab me. They are just very big aren't they. It's always going to struggle to feel exciting if it is massive. Which is why I'm also thinking about an Audi wagon but in RS guise. I've had a B6 S4 and it bored me. I said never another Audi - but then you can't really call an RS an Audi can you?

Right now I have my v8 e46 Beast for Fun - which is FUN - and I have my £600 e39 Bruiser for boring stuff. I can't fit my mountain bike in the boot of the Bruiser [unless I take off the handlebars] and if I wanna go camping [or even glamping] with some pals then I really need an estate - or a van. I can't quite bring myself to buy a Van for boring stuff although it probably is the best option. Maybe I should just get a tow bar for the Bruiser and a roof rack for bikes.
