Hi all.
I recently tried the 2 stage Carlack glass cleaner and sealant. I am sure that due to operator error I have c*cked up somehow as while water beads of the screen very well and it is as clear as anything as soon as I use the wipers it is as if I have put a smear of something across the screen. This disappears after a short while but while it is there oncoming headlights make visibility very poor and completely defeats the idea of the sealant.
Wiper blades are clean, they get cleaned each week when the car is washed and I have made sure there is no contamination on them. Could they have picked up something from the sealant?
I have tried using the Carlack cleaner again to remove it but to no avail. Can anyone suggest something that will remove this sealant please.

Thanks Dennis will give that a go.

Should the carlack glass sealant be a good one? or are there any that people recommend.
While the failure of this one may well be my fault I am a bit reluctant to try it again.

No problem, nanolex or gtechniq produce high quality glass sealants these are my go to but there
is loads more out.

Thanks

I've tried a few of the Gtechnic products and got on with them very well so I think I will give their version a try.

IPA won't shift a nano tech glass sealant (if the Carlack uses this technology rather than regular 'Rain-x' style silicones etc). You'll need to abrade it off, maybe a heavy duty clay or professional cerium oxide glass polish. The nano tech products chemically bond with the glass, which gives them great durability but makes them difficult to remove if misapplied. A lot of the smearing comes from microscopically torn/worn wiper blades (even if clean) or because the sealant has inconsistently bonded. Applying nano tech glass sealants onto glass where nano tech products have previously been applied can cause smearing etc. unless the old sealant is rigorously and completely removed. A lot of problems come about because people think they are just like carnauba waxes and a quick IPA wipedown will remove them fully, but they are still bonded to the glass and the new sealant doesn't attach properly over the top.
If the Carlack is just a standard Rain-X style product, IPA may work but I'd use a residue free glass polish as well because the glass should always be as clean as possible.
PS The Carlack glass cleaner will be to clean the screen of contamination, not the sealant off. Nano sealants need to go onto totally clean glass for the chemical bonding to occur.

Thanks Dom

I don't know which type of technology the Carlack is, will try the IPA first and if not will give it a clay.

Could well be a good call on the wiper blades they are a few years old but as they were working fine before the sealant was applied I made the assumption it was the carlack that was the problem.

i agree with what Dom said. I have found the gtechniq g1 sealant to be the best, but their glass polish (g4) is awesome, but can be a little tricky to get off if left to dry. With the gtechniq, clean the glass with g4 and then make sure all the residue is off using a normal glass cleaner and apply 3 coats of the sealant. Go round the car 3 times and then leave 15 mins. Then spray neat ipa onto the glass and buff off. No point getting the kit, as you never really get enough sealant remover. Also, if you get new wiper blades, apply some of the sealant on them, but don't buff it off. It helps with any juddering that may occur.

Carlack glass sealant is pretty basic and does'nt bond as strong as the gtechniq or nanolex offerings.
