Bmw S65 engine

What are people's thoughts on fitting a BMW s65 supercharged engine into the Gtr?
Go for it!!!I came to the same point in 2012 and decided to be different, by having a GTR with BMW-engine, rather having one with one of the various US V8s.
An M-engine was mandatory in terms of power and sound...
The S65 V8 and the S85 V10 were my favourites. In the end,for me, it was the screaming S85 V10.
But be aware!! This decision will slow down your build significantly, because every little bit you will need has to be engineered first, no exhaust, no fuel system, no induction system, no engine oil system, that would fit is readily available.
The S65 is the "little brother" of the S85 V10 with just two cylinders chopped off.
Few details were redesigned to reduce the
complexity of the V10, to bring down production costs. The oil system was redesigned to eliminate the high pressure pump for the quad-vanos, the ion sensing ignition was replaced by combustion pressure sensor spark plugs and the aux. el. oil pumps were omitted.
Perhaps your setup will look like mine in the end...(with two cylinders chopped off)
cheers

That engine transmission setup looks very long.
Will it fit in the rear clip or are you going to have to modify it?

Loving the build cooberpedy! Did you buy adaptor plate, flywheel and clutch set up off the shelf or did you design and build it yourself as I'm struggling to find info on that at the minute.
The gearbox adaptor and flywheel are not available off the shelf, they were custom made for me.Both engines, the s85 and the s65 have the same mating face.
So duplicating this set of bespoke parts could be a possible solution.

indeed it's a few centimeters longer than your LS7/G50 unit. In fact i managed to install the unit that way, that it sticks out the the back 1,5cm more than an LS install.
So no modification of the rear clam neccessary.... quite in contrast to the chassis, which has to be extensively modified to get the V10 in.

Standalone ECU's readily available for the S85 and S65:

Ecu wise I think they're the one to use. They seem reasonably priced and does most things you need it to do.
do they run the oil pumps as well? my worry on that ecu as it seems a very low spec ecu to run such a massively complex engine... I'm worried about the corners that have been cut to get it to run?Im running the BMW V10 in my project with a porsche G96 GT3 gearbox, going to sort the flywheel and adapter plate myself to go with a triple plate clutch so I can have fast gear changes as I bought the SQS sequential kit for the box.
I know of 2 other people using the V10 in their mid engine projects so its becoming a more popular choice now.... Ive had an M5 with the V10 for years and the sound is simply awesome imo... very deserving of a mid engined super car
The stock Siemens mss65 DME (as well as the mss60 for the S65) is becoming a more viable option for engine swaps now as well. There are several who have managed to get the Immobilizer disabled to dump the CAS module (security) for racing purposes. Also, the stock M5/M6 DSC unit (Teves MK60) has been repurposed in several other cars (apexspeedtech in the US) with a standalone control unit and works very well.
The S65 has the same connecting rods, pistons, and bearings as the S85, so the concerns of oil clearance are identical. There are a lot of options becoming available for that though and I wouldn't bother going through the effort of installing one in an engine swap without rebuilding it anyway.
I have a spare S85 in my garage now waiting to be rebuilt and still strongly thinking about an Ultima to put it in. I have a few spare DMEs and other modules needed to get the engine to run on a test stand, so getting it stuffed in another car should be possible whenever I get free time and money to pursue it.
The S85 is an absolutely remarkable engine even in the 4400lb M5 and just never stops pulling. The acceleration beyond 130 is unreal, I can only imagine that in a car nearly half the weight.
