Hey guys

I am returning to China again at the end of this month and figure that this time it would be a good idea to sort out a VPn on my iPad and phone. Any recommendations? I have got as far as TunnelBear so far but have no xperience so any other ideas welcome!

Is this to have solely on your device or to set up for your home?
If it's for your devices only using other wifi or 3/4G connections then I guess TunnelBear is as good as the next one.
If you're doing this in your own home, don't use a VPN. Use a DNS proxy service. This does some funky voodoo magic inside your router that makes your network believe it is elsewhere.
I live in Jakarta and have no problem with watching UK on demand TV etc. You also don't lose any bandwidth as you would with a VPN.
The one I use is www.smartdnsproxy.com

Another possible VPN that I've heard good things about is expatshield

Cheers,
Phil

Edit to add : If you're setting this up in China, you may need TunnelBear to access the smart website. But TunnelBear do 1GB free per month so easy as pie

the best free one i have found (ok, you have to work around advert banners but it does the job) is Cyberghost 5

Not tried it in China mind you, and only have experience of it on a laptop although i gather it is available for tablets and phones.

Thanks for the help all. I went with Tunnel Bear which I found to be OK - it worked well on the iPad but on my android phone it struggled. Might have been a function of the poor internet speeds though.
