Hi

I have the following:

Alpha 7r amp
Alpha 8 tuner
Alpha 5 cd player

Is it worth anything? My dad passed it down to me but I was going to sell if possible as I don't listen to cd's or the radio any more.

Thanks

Yes Arcam stuff is worth trying to sell, I'd be interested at the right price, pm me with details.

I've a similar problem - will probably soon be trying to sell 2 X systems, including Arcam CD, amp, power amps, Quad speakers etc.

I'm in Belfast too, so options are probably Gumtree or put on Ebay but 'collection only', which limits the market somewhat.

Probably end up getting derisory amounts if not prepared to post.

Arcam stuff will sell

see ebay - there are specialist hifi forums, but usually you can't sell till you have a presence

Are we talking £100 for each separate or is it worth more - ebay prices seem to be all over the place.

This set came from Lyric Hi-Fi many moons ago, I could reuse the amp I suppose but the other items are surplus to requirements as I've another set up I use.

Why collection only? Stick on specialist forums/ebay and be willing to post internationally.

British amps can be in demand abroad, I sold one for more than expected to a buyer in Germany via Ebay- you can select countries to exclude so just don't list in scam central Nigeria and the like, also exclude any new ebayers/ones with any negative feedback etc

I sold my 7r for £95 IIRC a few years ago on eBay.

Posting from NI isn't that bad through Parcelforce etc.

It's not the fact that I'm in NI that's the problem, it is the hassle of posting delicate items like Hi-Fi. If I was in GB then a 'collection only' auction wouldn't limit the market just as much, that's what I meant.

Huh confused

Bubble wrap it well (cost pennies), lots of scrunched up newspaper all around over to stop it moving about, place in Cardboard box, ensure adequate insurance in place.

It's just Hi-fi not a ming vase!!

Just don't use Parcel2go like i did last time I flogged some hi fi. I sold two items to two different people, one in Aberdeen, one down south somewhere. I labelled them up correcly but the courier who was undoubtedly in a hurry stuck his labels on the wrong items so each buyer got the wrong items.

I contacted Farcel2go who got the picked up but both the couriers involved smashed up the hi fi. They were really well packaged so it must have taken some doing.

I contacted Farcel2go again on their online chat thing but they insisted on me giving them photo's of the interior packaging of each item. Now whilst I take photo's of the boxes once packaged, I have never needed to take a picture of the interior.

Despite me requesting site of this requirement in their terms and conditions (which they couldn't or didn't seem keen to provide), they refused to process either claim without this evidence. Absolutely disgusting I think.

Not only did I lose the money for the sale, I also wasted the money for the delivery too. All in all about £100 down the drain.

Anyway rant over and to the OP, Arcam gear is often in high demand so good luck with the sale.

I wish I could get my Alpha 8 power amp to work! It turns on for about a second, the LED changes colour then goes off. If anyone has any ideas I'd be grateful to hear them!!
