The fk? Skin infection that's cured by antibiotics?

How the flying fk is that gout? Are you all mental?

Gout is epic (and I mean epic - like if you're worried someone might touch the area in any way you're prepared to kill them) pain caused by excess uric acid crystallising in "pinch points" in the body, typically in the legs. It can be brought on by bruising the foot, or swelling (as it might do on a long flight) of the area, not letting the crystals move and be broken down.
The cause of the crystals though is mainly diet - game, beer, whisky and other grain based alcohol. Google "purines" for the stuff to avoid. Antibiotics will not help if you have gout.

So yes, if you actually have gout, get prescribed something that might actually help. Naproxen is the normal painkiller given as it's an anti-inflammatory too.

Normal daily dose of ibuprofen is 1200mg, you can double that for a few days but as others of said it's not good for your gut.
It is not unusual for gout to be mistaken for infection, but unless there is pus collecting in the skin a big red shiny big toe joint is almost always gout

I had gout, and sometimes in BOTH feet

It is a build up of crystals in the bone joint, usually big toe but also ankle and others

you need a blood test to verify

Naproxen cured me, but it wasnt prescribed last time

hurts dont it

cut out peas, cheese, wine.....lose weight

that hurts too

Sorry to read you had it in both feet. One can be grim.

I switched to Naproxen today. Fortunately I'm in country where you can buy it at a chemist without a prescription. It is no worse and now day 5 so I'm hoping for some progress.

The web is awash with helpful and less than helpful information. As is the case with illnesses.
I am reading up what to eat and what to avoid. No cherries out here which is a shame as I like a juicy cherry!
