Interior designed in Basildon, IIRC?

I had an interview at the company when I was 16-17, Hawtal Whiting?

I might have nominated that but can never remember its name.

Honda S600! Would love to have a go in one.

Much like, unlike most in thread (perhaps also the Crx). Dare I ask about values - out of curiosity only, I hasten...

Always liked the shape of the 929 Coupe.

And most of all, my first car... an SC100GX "Whizzkid"

Has to be this for pure looks alone, although I'm a fan of jap sports cars so would like any!

Pic from Google
That's the final facelift of the 3000GT/ GTO I was talking about!

Looks fantastic to my eye, even though its very much 'of its time'.

These would've been up there with mkiv Supras/ R32/ R33 GTR Skylines had they been Evos in a GT/ big coupe body.

Shame that Mitsubishi have never managed to create a properly great Jap GT/ coupe, their only truly respectable performance car being the Lancer/ Evo.

In my view, they are the 'nearly' Jap marque that ended up as something of a one trick pony with the Evo, even that being occasionally outgunned by its contemporary Impreza rival over the years.

They had the Starion way back in the day, which is undoubtedly a classic. Going forward with coupes, they had the FTO, which certainly was not a classic (if a little underrated, possibly due to never really coming to the UK where it would have competed against some interesting stuff). The Eclipse was a (very) inferior Integra competitor, that never really got a Type-R rivalling model, and also never really came to the UK. Putting aside Paul Walkers/ F&Fs exposure, it really is a 'nothing' car, even in North America. Who'd have an Eclipse over an equivalent Celica?

They've most definitely missed the boat now, to the point that they almost certainly will never release something that will be an exciting non-Evo sports car. Can anyone see a Mitsubishi GT86 competitor anywhere in the near future? Or something even vaguely reminiscent of a Nissan GTR? Where did it all go wrong when we consider where they were as recently as 07/08 with the Evo X and the few years followimg that which saw some mental (and very respectable), high-power Evo models?

I'd suggest that it would be far more likely to see Hyundai produce an exciting sports coupe now than Mitsubishi, which would've seemed mad not so many years ago

I'd go so far as to say that I actually have more faith in Kia to produce something I might desire before Mitsubishi. Yes, Hyundai and Kia aren't Jap- but isn't it sad how the mighty have fallen? Maybe Im an old man and behind the curve with regards to the Koreans' progress, but my feeling is that Mitsubishi blew it in a big way to end up where they are...

Maybe Ive had one too many Johnnie Walkers, but is it possible that even Dacia might just reveal something ultra-cheap and light that would fit 'our' philosophy more than anything Mitsubishi has in the pipeline?

Totally off-topic re 'favourite Jap classic', but I felt someone should lament Mitsis' demise!

I always thought the Evo 1-9 were the only good thing Mitsi ever really made to be honest.

A GT86 Carloz Sainz... And a MK1 MR2 T-Bar.
Do you mean an ST185 Carlos Sainz? I looked into getting a 185 a while back, I should have probably driven one but many reviews and comments suggested the ST205 was the far better car. Love the shape of the ST185, and the 165.

Not sure on my favourite, there's so many and most have been mentioned; so I'll throw this in for a leftfield choice. Like a mini Integrale..

Bonus points for the scooter in the boot.

I was just coming back onto the thread thinking that if no-one'd posted up a Whizzkid, I'd have to do it smile

So much cloud9 in this thread.

+1 to the DC2s, CRXs and Evos.

One that possibly hasn't been mentioned (Although possibly not "Classic" I think it fits in going with some of the other more modern cars in here):

I mentioned it on page 4 of this thread, in my opinion along with the FD RX7 two of the nicest looking cars to ever come out of Japan. If Nissan could of only have taken some of this cars looks I'd be driving a GTR now.

Mine, owned it since 2000, currently undergoing sympathetic restoration.

Love these cars, my other original Lancer I purchased when I was 21 (24 years ago) I still have but is sadly well beyond help as it has rusted so appallingly . Currently being used as a donor car to keep other LT's on the road.

[pub bore ]

Should be in the original White / Orange "Rally spec" paint option "PWO" (which I will do when I tackle the bodywork). Maybe not to everyone's taste, but 170 bhp , RWD and around the same weight as a Mark 2 Escort makes for some good fun. Before the MIVEC engines were fitted to EVO's, this same basic engine design was still being used (4G63BT) in the Evo models, albeit the Evo's had an extra cam, 8 more valves and a few more updates. Shares the same engine as the Starions, Galants and Sapporo turbo's of the time but with a lighter flywheel and slightly different ECI system.

[/ pub bore].
Next door neighbour had one of these new when I was about 10. I thought it was extremely cool. w reg IIRC.

Quite like these, 2.8i digital dash.

While not a huge huge fan of Japanese cars, I do like the R33 GTR Skyline, S12 Nissan Silvia Turbo and for some odd reason the old Nissan Bluebird Turbo!
