Leon Brittain has died

On a separate note, what makes you think that because someone has a public profile, they are more likely to be a kiddie fiddler?
I don't think that. I think it is more likely that if someone has a public profile it more likely to be covered-up. That is what the establishment does. It protects itself above everything else. These kind of things always remind me a little of the moon landing conspiracies - simply in that despite all the people that you'd expect simply must have been in the know if it were true, not one has ever appeared with any kind of credible evidence.
There are enough ways these days to get information into the public domain with total anonymity that I simply struggle with it.
I also struggle with the idea that whips and other MPs all knew about these things but chose to say nothing at all, not one of them, even on their own deathbed.
That said I also struggle with why the hell anyone would make that kind of thing up if it wasn't true.

if you have a spare 40 minutes, listen to this. It is a perfect example of how these cover-ups happen. It is especially interesting, because it contains interviews from the time. There does not need to be meetings in dark, smoke filled rooms. The people in power do what they believe that have to do and what they believe others in power would expect them to do.

Yet we have on record, video and interviews, whips admitting to covering up 'indiscretions' of MPs to use as a lever in later times. This is the MO of the corrupt officers in the 70s. Officers and MPs were kept in line with threats to expose their wrong doings. There is little doubt that these indiscretions included sexual offences and even less that they were against children given what is being revealed.
One wonders if the whips knew of the extent of the corrupt behaviour of the MPs or the PM's knowledge of the corrupt behaviour of the whips.
For files of crimes committed by MPs, for one to go missing it needs collusion at a high level. No CPS brief is going to mislay it due to workload.
This could be off thread.
Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
When asked about it that little scam on Desert Island Discs, the word 'hindsight' wasn't mentioned, but Theresa May, Home Secretary said something like 'On reflection I could have done things differently.'
If Mrs May plays fast and loose with democracy to get her own way, what else will she be prepared to do? Or not do?
It's not a sop to Derek, or other BiB more a statement of fact and an open question.

Stitch ups are not unique to any single trade or profession, witness the cynical stunt played by Theresa May, Home Secretary in the House of Commons with the European Arrest Warrant. Was democracy denied by playing the rules and a technicality?Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

Said this article:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2816508/Ar...
Refers to MI5 spooks and loonies.
Nicely timed considering four Lords to want to rush an amendment through on Monday allowing the police and intelligence services to have a Snooper's Charter.
So there's the rumours about his involvement and the Dickens letters.
And where does this fit in the jigsaw puzzle:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2693635/No...
The way the police, police federation and their spin doctors stitched up Andrew Mitchell MP would give credence to the possibility that Spooks with a grievance wanted to sideline and/or smear Leon Brittan?
So Brittan's move to Europe, that Ken Clarke couldn't give a reason for, could have been to appease the Spooks and loonies?
Simon Danczuk MP is fibbing about being leaned on, or he's being leaned on as some fear he'll derail the gravy train? Just normal self serving vested interests?
funnily enough I used to subscribe to private eye around that time ,politics A level and all that so I do actually remember it.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2816508/Ar...

Worrying, on top of having listened to that Thorpe cover up report. When might we see heads roll? And I mean in the police, home office, govt. - the departments and individuals behind the cover ups, threats etc.

You suggested that Mitchell had been stitched up by police spin. This is not the case.Derek Smith said:

Mitchell said what he was accused of saying. No one stitched him up. He was guilty. Whilst some officers lied, they were dealt with. The evidence that was presented at the court was not theirs. If anything, the only one to come out of the case with any dignity was the officer called names by Mitchell. He said he hadn't been bothered by the name calling. It was only Mitchell's lies that caused his downfall. So not spin.
The irony comes from your spin on the facts.

Knowledge is power. Especially knowledge and proof of behaviour that would see someone disgraced and gaoled. I would imagine MI5 and the KGB are throwing temptation at the rich and powerful all the time!Derek Smith said:

Thanks for explaining it. As you may have thought I didn't get it. It's been a long day but that's no excuse.I am wondering how the stuff on the VHS video taken from Mr Tricker at Dover compares to the st porn that that DPG officer had on his phone that he was sharing around. We didn't have that Extreme Pornography legislation back in those simpler days. 'The good old days...

That occurred to me. I have no idea of course. It is quite an horrific thought. Not so much a cover up as something significantly worse.Derek Smith said:

If you knew enough you could have all our politicians under your 'influence'. That might come in handy at some point in the future, whoever the electorate think they've selected. grumbledoak said:

We can get the subsidised bars in Parliament scrapped on the grounds of national security? And the weekend brings us "multiple child rape"

Perhaps the desire to be in that environment ( i.e. in political power ) is a characteristic of people who also like to take part in this type of activity - symptomatic of their desire for power over other people ?Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
