A male super model apparently. I'd never heard of him until this car show. He was in the first episode having an orgasm over the Gullwing SL from the 50s. To be fair, he does seem to have a passion for classic cars.
True enough, but it did seem that he got more airtime than his Merc 190.tali1 said:
How would you feel if it was David Gandy who owned that collection of Austins - would that still ruin your day /week /year ?
I've got nothing against the man, the problem is the way the programme is presented and he is treated as the focus of interest. It was just a load of sucking-up and it was more about Gandy than the Mercedes. He didn't actually do anything wrong, it was just Kidd's worshipping of him that rendered the feature crap.

2000 hours to restore the Mercedes and the company did not even fit a new front Mercedes badge. Rest of the car looked nice though. I actually think the show has improved a bit. Is all ok until they sit on the sofa and Quentin ahole attempts banter with Jodie. The care segments are ok to be honest.

Chris Routledge's bits annoy me. No background to the particular find at all. The unicorn of cars! Ok, so what happened to the original company, who owns the car now and how did it end up in that garage (nicely polished and spruced up, covered in a sheet with some belongings neatly piled on top).
Fake and lacking anything other than him saying "wow, what a find" a lot.
Absolutely, just watched the episode and it was a complete waste. That bit had the potential to be very interesting, even for people who aren't massively into cars, but he added nothing to it at all.Fake and lacking anything other than him saying "wow, what a find" a lot.

I'm very impressed with his strength in managing to singlehandedly move a car that had been 'sat' for such a long time in a garage.

I can't understand the concept of the scripted piece. Was it aimed at non-PH types?
I had about 3 episodes backed up on TiVo that I hadn't got around to watching, and I decided to just bin them when we were reaching 90% or so. It's too cringey. Jodie Kidd might be a lovely person, but she's not a good presenter in my eyes (better than me, admittedly). QW's pieces are better than the studio gumph, which just smacks of trying too hard and script-reading. There is zero chemistry between them. The car pieces only ever seem about money, and how much XXX is worth now, and what it was worth 5 years ago, and what it'll be worth in...........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Who cares! Let's see people enjoying cars on the telly!
For The Love of Cars has no.1 perch for me at the moment. Car S.O.S close behind. This is dross.

In good nick in 2013 then. Not EXACTLY a lost barn find then. Like at least one of the others earlier in the series.https://www.flickr.com/photos/72582258@N04/9313477...

I(wrongly) thought your moan was more a general objection about a celeb (ie you were happy to see ordinary joes owing austins) rather than the "More Gandy than Merc" scenario. What i was trying to aim at was a celeb enjoying a classic car is better than, say, Top Gear destroying a classic car.But , yes it was rather too much Gandy and not enough Merc

Actually when it was restored David requested some of the original character and patina of the car was retained including the original bonnet badge, headlamp glasses that had a lovely mellowed look to them and the original steering wheel and gearlever which again had the look and feel that new off the shelf items would have.He is a true petrolhead and a nice guy too who loves to talk cars; he owned an Elise many years ago and cites one of his favourite drives being an early morning blast to Goodwood in a Caterham and has partaken in more than one Mille Miglia.

After all, you wouldn't buy a Tudor house and knock it down and build it 'like new' but you would restore it sympathetically and in keeping with its history. Yes, new wiring would be fitted etc but most of the period features would be kept and that is how I think it should be with a car restoration.
I have a lovely and well known Healey 3000 for sale that got to the stage a couple of years ago that it needed to be restored, however, things like the original works hardtop were retained and re-used to keep it's story and history with the car.

Lol. The idea is to preserve some originality. But I'll let Parry know you don't approve...RichB said:
ast year they restored an MGTC and he retained the original, slightly chipped enamel MG badge for the radiator. It added a little patina and was a nice touch. I think it's easy to criticise, perhaps through ignorance, perhaps simply for the fun of it? But to the informed it's little touches like that that make a restoration rather than simply tossing everything away and buying new.
Hilton & Moss?I'm wondering whether you may be confusing programmes? Peter Edney did the work on the 'For The Love Of Cars TC'....the one where the producer suggested the colour change to make it more 'controversial'...and where Glenister claimed responsibility for the decision...
