I wonder if they sold a lot fewer than they were expecting...
Considering more Apple Watches were preordered than Android Wear has sold since launch, I doubt it.I believe they were edging on caution with the estimate, possibly with so many orders and so many variations it being hard to give a more accurate estimate at the time of purchase.
It's a product I'll be following with interest. I have no purpose for one, and do not wear a watch, but I'm hoping it will grow in to a device I want and have uses for.

However, having said all that, I think the Milanese loop looks really knaff. I know many people will like it but as with everything it's not to all tastes and certainly not mine. It looks dated and overall, the shape of the product looks like something from the 70's.
Well that's where current watch fashion is at the moment. 70s square cases and mesh bracelets are back. They may not be your preference, but they are very popular at the moment, and I for one think it looks great ^I can only think of Apple with a milanese style bracelet and only a couple with square cases.

anyone have any initial thoughts on the watch? Feedback and opinions would be appreciated

I'm not sure what's individual about wearing a watch as a status symbol. If you want to get a watch that says something about you (as you apparently do) you have to get something people will recognise to give that impression. That's all consumerist advertising and brand nonsense. The complete opposite of individuality. Buying stuff to impress others is not individual at all.
I missed this comment:Who said anything about "status symbol"? Or "impressing others?"
Let me tell you, EVERYTHING you wear says something about you - whether you like it or not. Brand recognition is immaterial. I was just rather diplomatically saying that I think that watch, like a mans shoes, coat, jogging bottoms, tatoos, sideburns or hairstyle indicates a preference about that person on the day...
This is perfectly natural TBH and there's nothing pejorative about it...
I didn't say anything about status.
Pixelpeep got my meaning and I got his. He loves his gadgets and tech so he fancies an Iwatch.
A Sporty type might be wearing G-Shock on certain day.
A watch enthusiast with a sense of humour might wear an - Omega "Snoopy" watch
A person wanting something formal for an evening meal - JLC
Something a little funky - a classic Casio Calculator type thing.
And believe me, if you don't think that the things people wear, or their general appearance conveys SOMETHING about an individual then you're lying, or you're a computer. It's the reason why people wear a suit when going for an interview......
And remember, these inferences need not be anything to do with money and need not be negative OR positive. They just ARE. Sooo, this has bugger-all to do with money or "impressing others" or STATUS. It's just about people expressing a preference about themselves - whatever that may be.
My point to Pixel was that I thought that an Iwatch is a little "homogeneous" - for me, it's an appliance. So unless you're like Pixelpeep who loves this kind of thing, I was at a loss to understand why you'd fancy one when you could wear something so much more "interesting" and "different" which is more about you than it is about functionality.
Of course, you may be totally indifferent to wearing a watch to express a preference/character about you. And fair play to you. No problem. But of course, I'm surprised you're on the "watch" forum of PH.
I wasn't saying we should all go out and buy massive gold Rolexes.. but, remember, even they have their place....

Got my Apple watch love it, fantastic device. Lets be clear looking at the previous post, I have a watch collection , a few very high value pieces, Lange , Patek and my favourite is a Richard Mille RM002 tourbillon. Point made in the last post, 99.9% of people never notice the watches at all, the RM people think its a casio or something, I wear it for me, not to impress, if you want to wear a watch to impress buy a gold rolex period, and maybe get some diamonds on it that's what 99% of people would recognise as a high value watch. I much prefer feeling relaxed that no one knows the value of what it is you are wearing anyway.
Moving on then,I have been wearing a basis peak for a while, like to track my exercise etc, and was hoping the apple watch would be an improved version of that, it is a very improved version, recording my activities in an excellent interface,..thats the main purpose for me of getting one. Mine is the sport , its lovely & light, very comfortable strap, pleasure to wear, lot better feel than the basis.
Bonus features I like, have read a few txts on it, replied to a few, used it to change music whilst walking whilst phone is in my pocket, taken a call on it. Like the various faces & how you can configure them...it is an excellent watch /fitness device for an active person like me.
Downside is having to charge it, and the phone, but that's not too bad in my case been an office worker, only really connect the two once I am out walking/running or biking etc anyway.
Heart rate seems accurate & steps etc also spot on,can check my calendar & mail etc too...most useful.

Well then you don't know very much about watches.I can only think of Apple with a milanese style bracelet and only a couple with square cases.
However, since nothing came to mind at the time, I've searched quite a bit and found three examples of a milanese style bracelet and only a small handful of (generally), bespoke square cases but there is very little in the mainstream that's new. The milanese bracelets are still ugly (IMHO), and I've never been a fan of square cases. It's definitely an acquired taste.
Anyway, moving on. I've finally found something the Apple Watch could be useful for. I don't have voice control for my phone in my car. BMW wants a silly amount to enable Siri-Handsfree, and an Apple Watch could be cheaper! It doesn't mean I'll get one but it's the first worthwhile function I've found for me.
wonder if the watch will start going slow after a few iOS updates
on a more serious note, who would spend decent money on one of these when it will only be "new" for about 12 months before they update it on the next cycle. the whole thing is kinda disposable just like a phone tbh. probably wont even be compatible with the latest apple phones after a few updates.
most people keep their phones on 2 year cycles given they get a new one at the start of a contract, but now you have another device costing as much perhaps more than the phone itself which will need updating too. gonna get expensive quick! or maybe vodaphone et all will start including them lol.

My iPhone battery is already half-f***d after 12 months. If it was from just about any other manufacturer I'd stick a new battery in it. But not Apple, oh no. That'll be a whole new iPhone, sir. And it's a company phone and they won't do it. Actually, thinking about it, I can opt out in June and get a Moto G for £99 and know that I'll be able to take business calls after 5.00pm.
Meanwhile my wife took out a contract on an iPhone with sod-all memory so it runs about two apps and can store about 20 photos (as long as you don't want any music on it). With just about any other manufacturer you could just stick a lager card in. But with Apple? No, madam, you'll have to wait till the end of the contract to get a new shiny one.
FFS how do they get away with this? It's beyond me.

I changed the battery on an iPhone 5 a few weeks back for £7. Took about five minutes.
What phone did your wife get, the 256k version?

That's very presumptuous of you.
Not at all. It was based on your remarks and replies to this very thread. Enough evidence there, for sure.Very well done on finding some others though. Mesh/Milanese is very popular at the moment, especially on classic diver-style watches, which admittedly are rarely rectangular.
What a stupid thing to say 'just a trinket'...so far I have recorded all my activity over the last three days, rowing, walking, calories, cycling, resting heart beat...it is a great health aid,...clearly not a trinket if you actually care about your health it is most useful. Been walking, used it to answer couple of txts, check calendar appointments, pause my audio book etc etc etc...I have found it incredibly useful, also tells the time. I never quite understand why there is such an adverse reaction to such things, think they have done a great job on designing it...have had a Microsoft band & a basis peak for a while, totally blows them all away
trinket ???...clearly you don't lead an active or interesting life then if you cannot see any use for it or appreciate its possibilitys

I have been wearing my Moto 360 for quite a while now but switched back to a regular watch this week for a change. I am missing the Moto a lot, a really useful bit of kit if only for the instant access to messages.trinket ???...clearly you don't lead an active or interesting life then if you cannot see any use for it or appreciate its possibilitys

You can't really lead a healthy lifestyle if you need electronic gadgets to tell you that you are 'being' healthy. Then again maybe some do as they aren't as in tune with their body as they should be.
For me the Apple wrist device holds no interest and for me, doesn't add or enhance anything to me digital existence, so I'll not be getting one, for now at least.
