2002 - Mk4/Mk5

Horn blows but sounds like an asthmatic trumpet player.

Have tried a second horn module and checked the 15A fuse under the steering wheel.

Is there a relay for this and if so where is it. Have tried searching but this info is hard to find.

Is it a single wire Horn?

If it is a single wire horn it could well be a bad earth on the horn mounting bracket

Disconnect the single wire from the horn and take a wire from the battery to the horn terminal, that will test the earth properly

You say you have tried another horn, but not what was the outcome of that test.

The horn does not actually "blow" it would need an air compressor to allow it to do that.

It is actually a small solenoid that is cycled fast on/off to make a "horn" rattle against a fixed point, this causes the "horn" to emit a ringing tone which sounds like a horn.

Some have a small screw & locknut which creates the fixed point and is therefore actually adjustable, if yours has this arrangement you can adjust it while someone presses the horn button until you get a good sound out.

Other than that the above suggestion about the earth is good advice also & could be the issue.

On top of that there will be a fuse, which will be identified either in the manual or on the fuse box lid. If this is not the case google it & someone will have the info somewhere on t'interwebz.
