So the biggest bugbear for prospective c class owners, was the iPad type screen slapped bang in the middle of the dash. I thought Merc were going to stick with it, rolling out across various models, but this article seems to show Merc have seen the light....

I think I'll hold off in the c63 replacement for now.....

If the next big thing makes you wait.. You'll never buy a car.

What the article doesn't say is that this is for the facelift or possibly another version of the car altogether. 2 years away minimum according to another article I read.

True, but the tablet in the new C was vile - huge bezel, poor placing, looked like a real low rent accessory. Didn't look like a 30k plus car, the VW up implementation was far better.

A relatively small object in a car does not a car make. Sure it's a bit of an afterthought but it doesn't spoil what is otherwise an exceptional car and if it does then you're missing the point.

When you get into a current C Class (or an A or B for that matter) it really is a "WTF where they thinking about" thing though. Perhaps you get used to it after a while.

I agree but it's not just the C and it's not just Mercedes is it? What were they thinking?

The tablet stuck on to the dash looks even more ridiculous in the current CLS. Completely out of place.

I don't really see why the iPad style display is so controversial, it looks Ok to me. Different to what they've used previously but not necessarily in a bad way. Sounds like this 'facelift' is at least 18 months away anyway

Well it stopped me ordering one. Yes it's a great car but even after spending a day in the new C Class it irritated me. It looked really cheap and nasty compared to the rest of the luxurious interior. I just wanted to pull it off and stick it in the glove box.

I didn't like it on mine but after only 3 weeks it now doesn't bother me at all, the rest of the car is excellent.

Likewise, only thing is I must resist touching it.

That's what I kept doing!!! Which considering I currently have a C Class was weird as I am used to the controls.

Just seen a C Class ad on telly. Several of shots of the instrument cluster and the COMAND controller but they managed to completely avoid showing the screen.

I noticed that too, its very telling.

As much as the positioning, it's just the look of the thing I dislike: it looks like a cheapo tablet stuck on. With a bit of Apple-like design flair, I'm sure it could have looked much more palatable.

The reality is it will never be a touchscreen, Mercedes as a rule don't use them. Safety and that

My new C class has the cheap iPad screen thing which is unsightly but no deal breaker although touchscreen would IMO be safer than all those fiddly buttons in the cockpit. The layout in my old shape C250 Estate is much cleaner and the buttons larger and better with lettering I can read.

Seems the general consensus is that the tablet is disliked, as per my initial statement. In my case for me to purchase the new c63, pay £60k plus, and seeing that aftermarket add on, which completely ruins the excellent interior, would not be acceptable. Also knowing that it has been dropped by Mercedes for the next car, says that maybe someone at Mercedes had listened...

I didn't think I'd like it, but having lived with it for a couple of months it's a thumbsup from me! Nice and clear and frees up the dash compared to old style. But saying that, the new TFTs look fantastic.
