Does any one know of any late check in hotels (3am) in or around Dunkirk? The ferry doesn't dock until early morning so just need somewhere to sleep for a few hours before carrying on to Bruges.

Cheers.

Bruges is only 45 min up the road from Dunkirk, if you are staying in Bruges the following night, then might be easier to find a hotel there that will let you arrive late (or early!).

You'll be able to get a couple of hours kip on the boat.

This. Get an hour on the boat then drive the 50 mins smile however I then assume you wouldn't be able to check in at the hotel you'd be going to in Bruges hehe

Exactly! We are staying at a rented apartment but cannot check in until 12pm on Saturday. I have managed to find a few hotels that will allow a late check in. I am now just trying to work out which ferry crossing to take!

It would make more sense to sleep in your own bed on Friday night and get an early crossing on Saturday, so you arrive in Bruges when your flat is ready and you won't feel crap from having had no/v.little sleep the night before.

Dunkerque only saves 20 minutes on the autoroute over a Calais crossing and the Calais ferries are quicker and more frequent, plus it takes at least 10 minutes to drive from the Dunkerque terminal to the autoroute, so the time saving is nil. Unless the ferry is significantly cheaper to Dunkerque, I would go with Calais.

It's all booked now anyway as I managed to find a hotel that will let us do a late check in. Theres various reasons why we decided to go on the Friday night. Its not much different cost wise either.
