Bit of a thread hijack if I can. I have a bit of leave to take up at work, and I really fancy going to the TT this year. I have spoken to TTbreaks who can get me a last minute pre-made tent and transport. So I would be going on foot, with a backpack, for a few days over race week. I would also be going alone as none of my friends can make it, and my other half says she couldn’t think of anything worse(!) And I have never been before.

Grateful for any advice from anyone who has been – I am happy to go alone but am I right in assuming there would be plenty of people to meet and have a beer with? And is a huge amount of insider knowledge required (which I don’t have) to navigate the event to make the most of it?

Still undecided whether to pull the trigger.
I haven't even been before and I can tell you, you'll be fine laugh

From all accounts it's so easy to meet people and get chatting, it's just the nature of the event and to be fair - the bike community in general.

A guy I watch on Youtube went over last year from furthest Canada and just ended up hanging out with random people and chatting, I don't think you've anything to worry about.

If I were going race week instead of practice week I'd have met up with you for a drink beer

Unless you stink of BO or look like a mass murderer you will be fine. Everyone is so bike crazy that you can end up chatting to any old random people without trying.

It is an absolutely amazing spectacle and the speeds these bikes do are breathtaking. I will never forget the first one that came past me on the Sulby Straight. It scared the st out of me !

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cvgg_URy3_8 Not my video but you get the idea

You don't need any knowledge of it either and no one will look down upon you for not reciting the finishing order of last years Superbike race.

I would go in a heartbeat without friends.......

Just back from a couple of days blasting round the island.
TT fever has already started.

Very jealous of those going now.

Sailing 2 weeks on Friday morning at 4am. Hoping for:

1) Weather like we had last year (great)
2) That a Swiss clown doesn't come up the inside of me at Guthries as I'm overtaking someone else (and giving them loads of room/space to adjust their lines) and knocks me off. Like last year. 5 grands worth of damage to the bike, legal case ongoing as the Swiss admit fook all, even though he has gopro footage of coming up from behind and barging into the corner like Josh brookes at Mallory in 2009...

So what is everyones packing list for the week? Will it be cold or shorts and T Shirts? Pack waterproofs or just buy some there if the weather is crap?

I know speeding in the towns is well stamped on but are the local plod bothered by much else - the baffles are out of the RSVs exhaust and she sounds very fruity!!
