F10 M5 Sport Display??
Discussion
I have a feeling this may be a feature that simply isn't on UK models, but I've seen it mentioned on M5Board so thought I'd check.
Basically it's a screen option that displays power & torque on the iDrive split screen. Seems it's accessed from Vehicle Info settings. Also appears it was only introduced on MY15 (which mine is).
That said, US cars don't have the Dynamic Gearshift Display which was also introduced on MY15 so perhaps that's the trade off.
Anyone aware of this feature & if yes then where can I find it & how do I access it? Thanks in advance.

Found a youtube clip of said feature in action & whilst it's unlikely to offer any real world benefits, i don't like knowing something may be on my car but not knowing where the hell it is

Got a feeling it's a US feature, however oddly enough my wife's new Mini Cooper S Countryman has a very similar feature.

Nope its not a USA only feature, I have it on my UK M5 30 Yr Jahre....collected my car Oct 14 and it has it...very nice feature actually, use it a lot as a screen saver on the screen , as the red dials on the background make it nice & dim when night driving
Its in idrive menu its called 'sports display'....cannot recall which menu it is on as I have one of the short cut buttons assigned for it.

Thanks. If possible, could someone let me know where in the iDrive menu this feature is?
Now raised a 2nd question regarding the Assigned/Unassigned buttons. I had (wrongly) assumed these were purely used for Radio Station presets & as i rarely listen to the radio i never use them, however above i see you've assigned Sports Display to a button so i assume these buttons are more a shortcut to change features/displays & not radio presets? Please could you explain how you assign these buttons & what can be assigned to them?
I know i could RTFM, but it's cold in the garage

Easiest way to programme the shortcut buttons is to just select something you want to do and then when that is displayed on the screen press one of the SC buttons and hold for a few seconds & it assigns it to it
It is really useful...my button 1 is assigned to call the MRS mobile ( as it needs to be no 1! ), home is no 2, sports displays no3, bang & olufsen settings 4, home postcode for nav 5, etc etc ...I assign no 8 to switch off the display..that is really useful one button to just turn it off and on
if you lightly touch any of the buttons you can see what function is assigned without actually going into it, =handy so you don't have to remember where you put them all!!
SC buttons are one of the great useful ideas ,get them used!
Try anything, once its on the screen press a sc button, if you cannot allocate a sc button to it, it tells you ' cannot assign button to this function' so really just muck about with it and see whats what

Can you request BMW do a software update?
I'm going to try at the first service which is due soon. There are a couple of things that are 'possibly' software related: occasional battery drain warning (even when connected to a trickle charger), flickering monitor, jerky when cold on a hill start ...I think the bigger question is are there hardware changes to enable the Sport Display or is it just software. Same question with the heated wheel message - my car just lights up an LED on the switch, which you can't see unless you put your head under the dash!

I've had this, but it doesn't happen often and I only ever see it out of the corner of my eye (so never 100% sure that it wasn't the sat-nav moving around).Possibly it's connected to this: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... ?
Also, other than for the drivers seat, none of the passenger seatbelt warnings work. Service isn't due for a few thousand miles yet and can't stand to be without the car just to get little niggles sorted

Thank you Sir, I'll be giving that a go. And oddly my power dial shows power in KW, and the one posted below on M5 board shows it in HP. Would much rather see mine in HP, but haven't seen anywhere to allow configuration of it..hmmm will have to have a look about in various settings menu's and see if its configurable like 12 or 24 hr clock etc

640bhp??
Funnily enough this is the figure my dealership indicated - off the record- that the M5 may have.
I can concur that 600+ is the norm & approaching 640 stock isn't unheard of. Seems crazy that BMW didn't state a more accurate output but i'm sure their's some EU reason or gentlemen's agreement with other German marques for that.Funnily enough this is the figure my dealership indicated - off the record- that the M5 may have.
