sign of changing times isn't it? most of the demographic now get cheap flights to holiday in spain etc?
The chap who runs Drayton Manor said one of their biggest competitors was actually out of town shopping facilities such as malls and similar a good few years ago, which I found surprising.

(Ex themepark nerd, still love 'em for a day out though).

Didn't Southport have a decent park before?

Isn't Infusion at Blackpool one of their old rides that they bought when they went bust?
Infusion was at Southport yes, called Traumatizer - the same people owned both parks and moved the ride when they shut Southport down.

What about blobby land and whatever the hell it was called never went myself but a lot of the park is still there.
Happy Mount Park, as you say thankfully blobby is long gone, the park is a nice place though.
That place gave us an amazing Daily Mail article in which they reported that 'ravers' had wrecked the much-loved park, accompanied by countless photos of trees growing through things.

The main problem with American Adventure was that I never paid to get in! I'd just jump over the fence around the back of the car park hehe no wonder it was loosing money.
EFA.

When was a teenager in the good old days, seven of us used to cram in a Vauxhall Victor and go to Alton Towers. (Long before it was a massive theme park like it is nowadays)...three of us used to cram in the boot, pay for four at the gate, and when we parked up, three of us used to climb out and split the saving.

The look on the faces of the other people (mugs) in the car park was priceless....hehe

The American Adventure site is just a wide open space now, few things like the rapids 'river' is still there but it's mostly just over grown and piles of rubble.

All I remember is the queues & Dad bhing that everything was an additional price, once you'd paid to get in, that would be in the mid '70s. Since we lived nearer to Woburn & Whipsnade, not very impressed...
Don't go to Legoland then, £50 an adult and £43 for a child eekeek

Went last year and luckily had press tickets for entrance & food, would have cost over £300 just for a day out otherwise. I don't know how they can justify the child prices! Even their Lego shop is a good 20% more expensive than say Amazon

There used to be one in Morecambe to we used to go to a lot as kids, Frontierland, all that remains is the Polo tower now.

The tower has or had a wireless point point link on it which I think links the NHS across the Bay and had a 10 year lease signed a few years before the park closed

It can't be knocked down is the short version

There's a redevelopment plan being kicked around for what was the park to turn it into a shopping centre. The problem is none goes there anyway so it might all just get left

Apart from the actual cost I think the child prices make more sense than the adult at legoland. It's very much a childs theme park.
I think many places would be better charging more for the kids and letting the adults in for free.

One the subject of the article I remember the American Adventure, went a couple of time but it never really compared to Alton Towers and somehow even felt fake to my young mind.
We used to go to Wicksteed park more often. Loved it there and it looks like it's still going!

I remember visiting 'Blobbyland' in Somerset, probably early to mid 90s. It was rubbish. Probably have some photos somewhere!

About time too.

The Brits love theme parks, look how many go to florida and euro disney. No more quaint local crappy parks, just bring in the big companies that know how to do it properly.

I went to one in Devon last year 'Crealy' I think it was called. Some inbred scumbag told me it was "great as you don't get many blacks or Asians". No wonder, I thought, 'cos it's really st there, and not that cheap either.

And it's the worst ride I have ever been on. They have added rock hard padding to the restraints so it ruins your ears.

Went to the American Adventure park a couple of times and really enjoyed it, last time we went it was lovely and quiet. We went on the rapids about 5 times in a row with no queuing. It was a bit too close to Alton Towers, were I worked one summer and was always heaving.

How did I even forget about this when im 30 mins for it. Last time I went was 2009 just finshed our exams and as it was a boiling hot summer group of us decided to take the train down there, the park then was a mess, with some rides closed and other were falling apart, if money was spent on bring it back into the 21st century would be a popular place.

Amazed to see pleasure wood hill still going in Yarmouth.

Is that paramount theme park going to be built. I can't see it being a huge success tbh.
