Some good panning going on there
I remember the days of film
£5 for a 36 exposure, £5 for developing
Crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap crap good one crap crap crap
Digital has made it better and worse at the same time, better in that you can practice for free, worse in that you can't get near the track for cameras
Thanks for sharing , I'd like to see more if you have them

At least with film you picked your moments. The trouble with digital pics is that most people I see at races now spend the entire time taking pictures, then looking at them , then taking some more - all for some shots which won't be as good as the ones in Autosport next week and at the cost of not actually watching racing except through a lens.
Anyway...don't the pics also illustrate how splendidly close it was possible to stand to the track? My first GP was Silverstone 1971 and the crowd protection was a scaffolding pole to lean on and a bit of grass -and as I found next year Brands Hatch was even better. No wonder I'm almost deaf.

Well we'd love to self publish a book with the pictures, it would be a shame if they were just kept on a computer forever!. Not sure if there would be a theme as they are a rather ecletcic collection, F1 at Silverstone, club hillclimb at Cricket St Thomas... there are hundreds of old motor racing photo books out there but print on demand makes it cost effective. To be honest it would be a bit of fun more than anything.
its interesting how later into the 80s, the cars appear much further away!...

Just love these old photos, looks like John Surtees himself (white top with sleeves rolled up) working on Carlos Pace's car in the Silverstone paddock 1973. The other car in BB livery is Mike Hailwood's whilst the white car in the foreground is the Jochen Mass entry.
Sad to say they managed a total of zero laps between all 3 of them in the GP itself - courtesy of Mr Jody "Fletcher" Scheckter - I'm sure big John would have had a word with the lad...

I think the Renault with the hoop mounted camera, was the one that gave the inspiration for the current location of the on board stuff. Up to a point, teams were sticking them wherever, then the footage taken on the Renault surfaced again – with views of the cockpit – which bought about a change in thinking.
