I noticed a load of aircraft to the south east of Biggleswade this morning, the sky had about 5 lots of landing lights blazing away at different heights. I know NATS were talking about a new stacking area over south Cambs/north Beds - has this happened now or was something else going on at about 07:00?

My parents are in Langford, 2 miles south of Biggleswade. It's been normal for quite a number of years for flights coming into Luton from Europe to be routed north of Stanstead and head towards Langford. They often have their landing lights on a long way out but it's not a route directly in line with LTN's runway, but rather parallel to the north. If they are landing East to West they then get routed by doing 180 degree turn to the left taking them further south towards Baldock before performing another 180 degree turn (to the right this time) which positions them over the east of Stevenage and then inline with the Runway. If they are landing West to East they continue over Langford towards Leighton Buzzard where they turn to the left and into the airport.

Eitherway, its quite common at peak times (early morning and evenings) in hours of darkness to be able to spot several aircraft out to the East on their way in.
