Carpet and Canvass
Discussion
Limited experience on this having done this only once.
Mike very kindly supplied me with a kit that had been previously fitted so I gave it a try.
By far the most difficult part of the whole thing was hacking out the old carpet which had been glued with what looked like contact adhesive.
Used some parts of the kit which were easy like the floor mats, sill sections, transmission tunnel and parcel shelf mat.
Other sections like the rear wheel arches where the shape is complicated the kit was an aproximate fit and needed a lot of adjustment to make fit.
I bought a couple of metres of new carpet and made new sections where the kit had been damaged.
Next time I'll just buy enough new carpet, use the old stuff as a template
and have a car trimmer do some edges etc to finish off nicely.
Which will be a small fraction of the cost and probably fit better.

Hi Pete
My friend Colin (came on the tour last year) is installing a 100% wool carpet in his Chim. I have dropped him a note as I am sure he got it from Lakewell. Anyway, he told me that it is a good quality product but no instructions as to what bit goes where; and there are a lot of bits. If he confirms it is Lakewell, I'll put you in touch with him.
Cheers

I replaced the carpets in my S1 last year using the lakewell carpet kit. On the whole I am happy with it but it is quite an effort to fit and did not fit 100% accurate. The instructions lakewell provides are pretty crap due to them being a series of very very small pictures on A4 size paper so it is very hard to make out where things go. Most bits are straightforward, but you should be able to guess the bits that are unclear and as mentioned this website is useful ... http://www.andrewc.org.uk/tvrgit/.
On the whole though, lakewell were the cheapest I found, and I was happy with what it cost and the quality level it is. Looks great in my s1, not perfect, but looks good.
