Actual prices paid for Tuscan Convertibles

After a lot of thought I've decided to sell my Tuscan S Convertible. I love the car, but a change in circumstances (becoming a father) means I basically never go out in it.

I'm trying to decide between selling privately or via a dealer, but having spoken to a couple this morning the prices they're offering sound really low to me. I appreciate they have to make a margin but still...

So, I realise this is a big ask but if you've sold or purchased a Convertible in the past 12 months would you mind sending me a PM to let me know what the asking price was and what was paid? I won't disclose this info to anyone else - I'm just trying to gauge what I could realistically expect to get for it either way.

Will any dealers do it as % of final sale price where you can basically choose the price it is advertised for and if it sells they get a % of that?

I've had a couple of trade in figures for my mk2 S recently and whilst they're low, I can understand that many dealers are taking on a slightly more risky car in the sense of little niggles do and can go wrong so to protect their margins, the trade in figures need to reflect that risk.
I guess you might find a better trade in figure from somewhere does the above and agrees to try to get what you need by agreeing a % figure, except that would effectively be a Sale or Return contract and that also has its separate issues (not immediate payment for example).

At the end of the day, you will get more selling privately but there are quite a few hassles/hurdles (especially test drives) that mean a trade-in can be a good overall option. Racing Green actually offered us the same for our old Chim as we could get for it privately but as we couldn't stretch to the Tuscan they had in stock then the overall deal didn't work.
If like me, you're just selling and not buying, then you're already on the backfoot in terms of what dealers can make from the deal so i'd expect low offers compared to advertised prices.

Yes. But you should be very careful where and to whom you entrust your car.

Yes I agree regarding the hassle, but if there's 5k-£7k in it then it's probably worth it.

I got this one from Racing Green as it happens. I called them yesterday but they don't seem to be taking any more stock at the moment due to their move.

Racing Green have had the Spectraflair 'vert in for ages so maybe they are looking to move that on before taking in another. That's been up for £38k, and looking across the classified the listed prices seem to be a around the £40k level depending on spec and mileage. It's not the right time of year to be selling and that's maybe why the cars at that price level aren't finding new owners, or maybe the price is just too high! Hexham Horseless had an Iced Titanium non-S convertible with a lovely red leather interior just before Christmas which sold very quickly, so quickly I never saw what the asking price was!

If you're thinking of selling, put some adverts out at a price you think it's worth. Use the free classified on here and post details on the 'TVR Tuscan Owners & enthusiasts' Facebook forum to see if there is any interest. Selling privately isn't always a nightmare but you have to be realistic with the pricing if you do actually want to sell.....

You have an advantage with it being a S, speed6/8 sceem to sell the S converts very quick, just give them a ring if you have not allready

Yes that spectraflair one was there when I bought mine in May 2013. It's not that surprising it's still around though. From what I recall it was a bit tatty and has an odd interior colour scheme. Ken said they were going to tidy it up a bit and give it a partial respray (front, or perhaps just bonnets I can't remember). It also had some weird iron-cross-shaped high-level brake lights attached to the roll hoops and a few other offputting 'characterful' cosmetic bits (Nurburgring sticker for example). They may have sorted all that in the meantime of course. I have no idea about mechanical condition or history but it's also a non-S.

I'll not comment as I know the former owner very well and he is one of life's great 'characters' in the nicest possible way. A top bloke thumbup

I think it's probably about £5k too expensive IMHO, if it was an 'S', or had a dark full leather interior the asking price would be a better starting point for negotiation.

I think you'd have to be a bit of a character to put those brake lights in it biggrin

I should say, I meant no offence to the previous owner - it just wasn't to my taste.

I weas thinking of trading mine in about 18 months ago for a DB9 Volante.

£15k eh? Wow.

At the risk of cross-posting (see "Saggy advice needed") I just wanted to say that my car sold on Weds last week.

I did a cash deal with Str8Six which basically gave me what I wanted for the car. It was done really quickly (within 24 hours) which enabled me to dodge my insurance renewal.

Thanks to everyone for the advice and PMs. If you're selling a Convertible you should definitely give Str8Six a try.

It's not like I ever drove the thing any more but I feel strangely lost and empty now it's gone... :sob:

Yes Str8six are good, they did the rebuild on my first Tuscan. Jason is a very nice chap.

Just for info, the AM dealer told me that they would have offered me a generous 22k but had deducted 7k "just in case it needs a rebuild in the future".
When I asked them if they would deduct 10k off their DB9 that I was interested in, "just in case it needs a rebuild in the future" they seemed to get upset ???

I'd not met Jason before this, but he seemed a decent sort and kept his word on our deal.

How come you were thinking of swapping for the DB9? I presume it was some combination of the extra seats and extra cylinders...

I considered a DB9 as a replacement for the Tuscan but I wasn't very keen on the interior and to be honest the running costs put me off. TVRs are amazing value for money when you think about what you get!

To be honest, I was getting a bit fed up with an engine running problem on my Tuscan.
Under load it would miss-fire which occasionally caused some embarrassment involving Lambo's etc.
Coupled to that, I had bought myself a Chimaera which was basically great but needed some TLC.
As my focus was on the Tuscan, every time I came home (I work away), something else would have failed on the Chimaera.
I reached the point where I told my Wife that I was going to sell both TVR's and scratch the DB9 Volante itch.
My favorite time of the year is our annual Tuscan drive down to Spain and I considered that the AM would be pretty good at that.

Anyway, we finally found the Tuscan problem to be the coil pack. The first time out after the fix was an instant "forget the AM" biggrin
I did sell the Chimaera as I felt I needed to focus entirely on the Tuscan, which right now is up in Blackpool having a full retrim and respray smile
