The M3 looks like a great car - though, not all reviews have been complimentary - but why would you change?

In what areas is the M3 appreciably better than the M5? The 5 has better build, has more space in the rear, and is faster*.

No chance, I would far rather have my old e90 M3 Saloon back.

Or a new C63/E63....

No thanks. The M3 is a nice enough motor but would never see any point trading down to one. I prefer the space of a medium-large saloon over a small saloon.

It would be very hard to leave an F10 M5 for an M3.

The M5 is far better in virtually every way, you'd be nuts to make the move.

This is the thing about M5s: most other cars, including some expensive machinery, just feel naff in comparison!

My M5 is now 3 years old and plan to keep for a while longer, but I'd certainly look at the M3 as a replacement, as well as another M5 or maybe an M6 GC.

Based on what others are saying about current offers, M3 doesn't offer much financial incentive at the moment, but I'm sure that will change in due course.

So reasons I would consider M3 is that it should be cheaper, offers option of manual gearbox and it is a more nimble car. I wouldn't expect the same quality as the M5 and I think I may prefer to go back to a smaller car in a couple of years.

But if I were in the market now with £60k to £70k to spend, I'd probably stretch the budget for the M6GC.

Why take a backwards step .. after the M5 anything less than 552 bhp is a bit gay.

Test drove both and picked the M5.

Horses for courses though, if I was younger it would probably be the M3 or M4.

Not sure the decision is as clear cut as people are making out

The m5 is ace but the m3 just seems so much fresher and sportier.....I'm probably going to go for the f10 m5 next but if they were priced the sane I'd seriously consider the m3

If you pick a more exotic colour combo on an M5 it can also be seen as 'sportier' and 'fresher' also.

I'd spec on in Sakhir Orange metallic with 19" wheels and black interior. There is one local to me and it looks mad.

Iv had the M5 now for nearly a year, and i have it for another 2 years on lease. Obviously it is epically fast in a straight line, but i only really get to use this for short bursts on the motorway. I do very much like the car, however next i think i will want something smaller and 'sportier'. This means i will probably look at a boxster/cayman gts, evora s, f type, and from the BMW range the new M2 rather than an M4 if it turns out to be what i hope!
This also depends on whether i decide i need 4 seats, in which case most of these are ruled out and i also consider a 911.

I think the M5 would compliment a boxster gts etc as the family car... although i would probably want it to be an estate and 4wd as i struggle to get traction unless the ground is dry.

With all this said, i still think the M5 is great and i feel very lucky to be able to drive one every day!

I looked at the M3/4 test drove them, I had the LCI M5 at the time, I chose the M6 GC Comp Pack, beats both of them hands down, love it.

Think that will be my choice when I replace my M5 in November if I can get a good deal

I have an F10 M5 and I am considering a new F80 M3, or a new C63, when my M5 lease is up at the end of this year. If M3 pricing (After discounts, finance etc ) is still the same at the end of this year, then the C63, or even another M5, look like better value for money. I still need to test drive the C63, so I am not really ready to make a decision yet.

When are you looking to switch to the M3?

What a ridiculously childish comment.

Would def see the new m3/4 a downgrade from a F10 M5. They are in a different league. M6 GC would be my choice.

I haven't heard 'gay' used as an 'insult' since Year 9 in secondary school. Wow, what a throwback.
