Xenophon, thanks for the info, just seen!
No problem! - Here for your information, is a broad look at how the system works. The system is 'Exhaust Flap fail open' - to allow the engine to continue to operate safely should there be a system malfunction.
The consequence of running a LS7 at full load with a restricted exhaust is interesting to say the least!
The 'flaps in each exhaust are operated by vacuum controlled actuators, which are connected to the inlet manifold by a flexible pipe set which runs under the car.
In the pipework run, there is a solenoid operated valve which receives an open/close signal from the Exhaust Flow Control Module {EFCM}.
The EFCM is located inside the vehicle main battery box in the Passenger side rear compartment.
With the engine OFF/ignition OFF, the exhaust flaps are open.
With the engine OFF/ignition ON, the exhaust flaps are still open - but the control unit is energised, and ready to open the solenoid valve in the pipework connected to the inlet manifold.
When the engine is fired up, the EFCM signals the solenoid to valve to open - the exhaust flap actuators are then subject to the depression in the inlet manifold, and consequently they close the exhaust flaps.
The exhaust flaps stay closed until, depending on the Driving Mode selected - Normal or Comp - a circumstance of 3500 rpm or 3000 rpm and /or 25% + throttle is attained.
The Body Control Module {BCM} then sends a signal to the ECFM to close the solenoid valve in the pipe work.
Closing the solenoid valve then denies the flap actuators access to the depression in the manifold and consequently, the exhaust flaps open.
The ECFM power supply is fused 10A - the fuse is located in the fuse block situated in the Passenger's footwell.
Most 'Mild to Wild' accessory kits operate by simply removing that standard 10A fuse, and replacing it 'in situ' with a custom made switchable link, which is operated by a small wireless transmitter.
By operating the transmitter, the driver can make or break the circuit at will, and thus override the vehicle’s control systems as he wishes.
Cheers!
G4HKS had a Borla system on his Z06 and reckoned it was a little OTT - it did tone down a little bit with use, but still v loud. Also the tailpipes are H-U-G-E Biggest issue is probably the "drone" speed... Not sure what that is on a Z06, but with Borla Stingers on a regular C6 it's equivalent to 70-80 when cruising on the motorway so can be annoying if you're forced to run in that speed range...
If your not sorted yet I have a z06 exhaust wrapped up in the loft, was on my 2007 model. Not sure wich make it was but borla rings a bell i can dig it out if your interested. I took it off and put the standard one on when i bought the car it was just too bloody loud
