Evening all,
Having tucked the 750 away over the Christmas period I dug her out today to start doing the few bits I have planned for it (Full service, cam chain tensioner, new chain and sprocket) before I start riding again.

I'm in need of a set of tyres, I have had various sets on various bikes in the past. On my last bike the FZR600 I had a pair of brand new Bridgestone BT-023s, good tyres and I had no complaints. Brought my Suzuki last year and it had Pilot power 3s on it and they had just covered 50 or so miles so were barely scrubbed in. Again no complaints and found these to be quite well suited but fancy a change for something with a bit more grip.

A close friend always swaps tyres on any new bike to Pirelli Rosso corsa 3s and loves them, can't speak highly enough and keeps pointing me in that direction but just thought I'd check and see on here if anybody had any recommendations. I only ride during the summer so am not worried abut the rate of wear.

Any help would be great.
Thanks
Rj

So there's nothing wrong with the PR3s that are on but you want to change them anyway? confused

What makes you think you need more grip? (serious question)

Aside from the fact they are on there way out, I just purely fancy a change, everyone I come into contact with on bikes always seems to mention how great there tyres are but I hear this from everybody so wanted to see on here if any of it matched up and one came out on top.

I'm no Rossi on the road but feel a better set of tyres or perhaps a more focused set would do no harm...although correct me if I'm wrong?

Pirelli, if you want sticky and don't use it in the rain much the Supercorsa is out there, or what your friend said. I have Pirelli on 5 bikes, Supercorsa on 4, Dunlop on another but it came with them, they'll go probably.

OP for road use I fail to see how 99% of riders would need more than any of the current top sport touring tyres from the likes of dunlop, michelin etc.
This is of course my personal opinion which some may disagree with smile

You won't out ride PP3s on the road, so the only reason to change is person preference for brand or the way they feel. Unfortunately that's the bit only you can decide.

Thanks for the replies. As I say don't get me wrong I'm no Moto gp rider but I hear and read rave reviews about the likes of Pirelli & Metzeler and keep thinking about a change as they will be due for one the early part of this year. Rather than put the same back on if there was a better option out there thought I'd give it a go.

It's not all about grip. A sports touring tyre may grip fine ...

BUT ...

Profile plays a massive part and can change how the bike feels drastically.

Feel is what gives confidence.

Confidence is what provides speed and enjoyment.

I've tried most of the touring tyres and I have tried most of the sports tyres (road biased) and in my opinion I'd chose a sports tyre every time on a sports bike. These days they heat up quickly, have sensible wear due to multiple compounds yet with the profile shape give great feedback so there is no great reason to use a touring tyre on a sports bike.

My current fav is Metzler M7RR.

An interesting point, had not necessarily looked at it like that before. So perhaps a change of profile then as well as? Or instead of.

The Rossi 3's are a superb all round tyre with more grip than anyone riding on the road with a road bike can use.

A poster on here who used to race in BSB got am invite to the launch and couldn't praise them enough

I can't think of his forum name (he likes TVR's) anyone else know his name?

I have a rear Corsa on my K4 750 which I like a lot. Its worn pretty well too.

Having said that (and it may be sorted now) there were quite a few instances, of the now Chinese made, Pirellis having issues with the bead splitting. Same goes for the Metzler.

I used to use Metzeler Tourance.....until they started making them in China. So switched to Michelin Anakee 2 instead.

For the OP.....stick to the Michelins!

Are all metzeler tyres now made in China? Or just the 'cheaper' ones?

I think it's most of them, same for Pirelli.

Are we really having another chat about tyres? Nobody on here is good enough to outride any sports tyre and few could outride a sports touring tyre.

I think it was Kevin Schwantz who reckoned if he'd had one set of modern sports touring tyres for a whole season back when he was racing 500s, then he'd have won every race. That was at least 5 years ago as well and tyres have only got better.

Stop flapping and just ride.

Mate of mine used Tourances on his Varaderos for years......always got around 10K out of them.

So he was gobsmacked when a set were shot at 6K......it was only when he checked them closer he saw "Made in China" on them.

He reckoned grip and handling didn't seem to be any different.....but the longevity (which Tourances were renowned for) had gone.
