Hey up peeps,

With the updates and modernisation I'm making to racer over the winter, looks like I need a new rev counter... Old Elliot one we have is not compatible with Omex setup I'm told.

So, looking through the usual places I like the look of Smiths, Racetech and Stack at the moment. Is Stack worth the extra money or just paying for a name? Looking at rev counters upto 8000rpm - thoughts please!!

Also, anyone got any good links for re-wiring race cars?? With everything it's getting done so far, looking at re-wiring the whole thing!!

Thanks

Dave

have a look at the race-technology dash 2 and dash4 pro. not much more than a top line stack rev counter and does sooo much more

Also your ECU loom should be fairly self contained, just a couple of power feeds and earth. the only connection to the old loom is probably from the fuel pump relays.

All the gauges are race tech in the Rover Tuscan, no problems in five years.

Any reason given as to why the old tacho is not compatible Dave? Is it that it was driven by the coil previously? If so it needs something to step up the omex 12v tacho output to something like what the coil primary was backfeeding after the field collapses .. a common workaround when using aftermarket ecus on older tachos is to use a tacho driver .. I use this from Emerald :

Hi.

Im told that omex 710 ecu for some reason doesnt like 8cyl rev counters!!?? And mine hasnt got a switch on the back and cant be switched... Have seen those in line resistor type things but not really wanting to put more things in, rather just put a new rev counter in.

Never heard that one before Dave .. plenty of rover v8 engines running on omex .. it's basically an older gems ecu marketted out to a few people who put their own stickers on according to the internet forums .. I've only had limited experience of omex but plenty of people have used them with no apparent issues. As always though go with whatever your installer/mapper says .. that way there's no argument when it does / doesn't work as expected.
