Nissan X Trial jolting.

We've a Nissan X Trail (T30), 2.5L petrol engine, 5 speed manual over here in Oz.
While driving along, if you come off the clutch too fast in 3rd for instance, you get a jolt, feedback as it were. Sometimes when driving along, not changing gear, you'll get this jolt suddenly as well. This is in 2wd, or that's when we have experienced it.
To my untrained eye, I'm thinking an issue surrounding the clutch or gearbox. Does anyone have a thought off the top of their head?
