Delta Integrale Martini 5 goes to auction

So what, you may ask. Only this Lancia has 31 recorded miles and an estimate of £100K...

The Lancia Delta Integrale never fails to grab attention on PistonHeads. It may have been out of production for two decades but the rally success, combined with its reputation as a fabulous road car, has sealed its reputation as a legend. So when a notable example comes up for sale, it's worthy of a story.

This HF Turbo Martini 5 (that's 5 for world rally manufacturers' championships remember, and there was a 6 too) is certainly a notable Integrale. Just 400 were produced in that fantastic livery, with some grey Alcantara inside also marking it out. But #124 of the run is special as it's only ever completed one journey. The dealer took it 31 miles to the buyer where it has remained 'in perfect storage' for 23 years. Now it's coming up for sale at Silverstone Auctions' Race Retro auction next month with an estimate of £90-£110,000. Which is quite a lot.

It will be fascinating to see whether it reaches that guide price. The values of homologation specials still appear to be climbing (see E30 M3s, Cosworth Fords and RS 911s) so it wouldn't be entirely surprising to see the Delta reach six figures. For reference there's another Martini car (a Martini 6) on PH with 19,000 miles for sale at £56,995. Wow.

Big estimate, very green, much want

Other than the Integrale there's plenty to be excited by in the catalogue. For a cheaper slice of Italian motorsport history, this Alfa GTV could be brilliant. Mustard never looked so good... And if you were in the Ford rally camp rather than the Lancia one during the 90s, there's an actual Escort RS rally car going under the hammer too.

It wouldn't be a classic auction without some old Porsches or Fords. See for example this very nice 1973 911 S Targa, this race ready Lotus Cortina and a desperately cool Le Mans Green Escort RS1600.

PHer with a family? How about a Lynx Eventer? This version of the very rare XJS Shooting Brake has covered just 70,000 miles and looks excellent resprayed black. And for something more exotic, there's a Ferrari 456 available with just 400 recorded miles and a £75-£90K estimate. Manual too.

31 Miles.

My colleague had a Lancia. He reckons the mileage is that low because the owner got fed up after it broke down.

All for keeping a car in good nick, but cars aren't made to sit in storage. Bit of a waste is my personal view.

Bought as a future investment with 400 being produced, i'd say that was a very clever move by the buyer knowing they'd make a killing in the future probably for their child(ren) etc either way very smart buyer(driven straight to house 31miles and immediately decommissioned and put in garage and just sit and wait) wow very good foresight indeed, now lets see if it makes the money being sort.

Assuming it was properly decommissioned and stored in a temperature and humidity controlled bubble

Seems a waste to me ... And imagine have that sort of temptation sat in the garage...

yes
Not to mention, how much was it new, and how's that adjusted for inflation?
100k now was about 50k back then.
Then, as you said, the cost of keeping it pristine...

Yep. I have thought this allot when people talk about investments. Sure, if you get lucky and buy something in a market where it is worthless and sell it when the market is high AND it is something that goes for silly money, then fine, but most of the time people can't be making much once you have taken in to account looking after the car for many years.
