I have just seen Amazon UK have dropped the price of these for today from £399 to £99 (with no contract).

I know it has mixed reviews but at a hundred quid seems like a bit of an absolute bargain for anyone interested.

...when it was priced at £400 it had 'mixed' reviews. Some were actually very good.

But at £100 it blows anything else at that price point out the water.

If you put on the proper version of Android it's actually an excellent phone - the main problem is that techies don't like the Amazon OS. smile

Why use an open OS like android and then lock it down so much that you can't use it? Sounds like MSN. Here's the internet, only you can't use it.

Could you stick a proper version of Android on this rather than the bastardised one?

I think you can - you definitely can on the Fire tablet.

Seriously tempted when I saw this earlier, to replace my Moto G 3g which has been perfect (and better than my iphone 5) for 13 months now. I paid £139 for it, and if I get £50 ill be happy. Reckon its worth the risk, you going to Greg?

Ye I've ordered one - I've played on a friends and for what I use it for it's great. It also has a brilliant camera which is nice!

I've ordered one, regardless of whether I can stick a proper version of Android on it.

For £99, if I don't like it, I'll flog it to someone at work and get my money back.

I imagine any little phone shop can unlock it for a tenner.

It will. Works with O2 and GiffGaff.

How can a company with that much money behind them not hire people who know how to make something spectacular?

Imagine having invested so much only to have it totally flop and having to basically give it away.

Need to sideload Play store = faff (no guarantee it won't brick it either).
Need to unlock from O2 = faff

I can only find $50 unlocks (here: http://unlockfirephone.net/ ) .

Does anyone know an easier way to unlock a fire?

To be honest though the first iPhone was rubbish as a smartphone internet browsing concept based around apps and data, it didn't even have 3G.

You can install Play store apparently, which makes them a bit more useful

I just noticed that in America they are selling them for $199 unlocked with a year of free Amazon prime. I would imagine that the same will come here as that is just dumping them. (Original price was $650).
