Perhaps Darren will enlighten us, havn't heard of limits being imposed on td's but have not done one here yet.Plenty of tf though-been too sodding busy helping get a new company up and running (mind you, the cars we have been using have been 'rewarding 'enough)
Yes a GT3RS will quite easily exceed 200 going up Flugplatz, I would have thought.
i have instructed several trackdays at the Ring and they have had imposed speed limits. New transponders are being issued.
I think all trackdays are running the limits at the moment as it is being overseen by Ring management who are calling the shots. Personally i don't see the limits an issue. Cutting the absolute speeds at some points can be beneficial in reducing some very high impact smacks. Saying that crashes can happen anywhere with not good results. But cars flat out on the DH as an example is a big accident waiting to happen, especially at speeds around the 300 mark on what mustnot be a worse surface than can be found anywhere else in germany.

Thanks Roy-must get out on more TDs wink
RE DH, would have thought its worse than quite a few sufaces around here.
So now with a trasponder fitted if you record a lap time of under eleven minutes, they will know you've been speedingsmile
Bridge to Galgenkopf anyone?.smile)

The speed limits will be in place on ours and all trackdays for the foreseeable future.

I don't believe the effect on participants will be massive. On any given event there are only a few cars with the power and gearing to hit the limits at Flugplatz and SX - and of those, even fewer owners prepared to drive their cars hard enough to hit those limits.

It's simply not an issue.

Dottinger Hohe is a slightly different matter. Personally, if I wanted to drive flat out in a straight line there's any number of autobahn in the immediate vicinity where I could do it. As far as the track goes, we all have to accept the 154mph limit for a few seconds. I firmly believe it'll make negotiating Tiergarten safer, especially with participants joining the track from the car park, stage right.

I've signed the contract updates, The Ring are staffing all three points with an additional radar gun equipped marshall and anyone who won't respect the limits will be asked to leave the event.

For the Ring management, as for us (and all the TDO's) your safety is paramount. What we have here isn't a perfect solution, but we all have to work with it until something permanent is agreed.

I still have spaces available on the next two events, and have opened up single day bookings on DN12.

Cheers
Darren

Disappointing considering that is not an issue on VLN configuration TDs.

Road cars will be using the normal entrance on the Dottinger with race cars using the pit exit.

If it prevents a re-run of the Porsche/M3 incident from a couple of years back its the thing to do.Better than cones all the way to the bridge!

Agreed. The DH limit was a surprise to me, and continues to be a thing of wonder. Why?

Still, we play the hand we're dealt - for the rest of the years events anyway.
Get in quick before the chicanes are built!

The limits are little frustrating, simply because they exist.
I am sure I am wrong, the decision being considered carefully after such a tragic incident, but on the face of it, it does seem a little of a "knee jerk" reaction.

My little Audi is only just touching 160mph on the main straight, so I guess it's of little consequence to me.

Either way, I am really looking forward to getting back out there driving

Just my view but if a trackday limit on DH can prevent a repeat of some of the reaaly heavy crashes that have occurred in racing in the past few years between GK and HH then it's a good thing. Even with all protection sanctioned into the race cars i would deffinatly not want to replicate the outcome in a non fia spec car.
i think you also have to factor in that you could have Joe Bloggs in his run of the mill 80's gti with no cages or safety equipment other than a seatbelt, shareing the track with Gunter VanSpeeds 1500bhp mega race-car, which party of the two could die if they got tangled while flat out on DH???

Croft was a success in that I found a slight issue and fixed it, apart from that, the Golf ran fine.

Just a few jobs to finish off then I can get it on the trailer in the next few days. biggrin

Dunno if those who are still undecided have seen this, but Dale has a link to 10% off on his BTG page until Sunday night.

I`ve been booked for months, so it obviously doesn`t affect me, but thought I`d share seeing this is the DN thread biggrin

Nigel,
Are they any enhancements on your car for this year?

I`ve cleaned it. As the smarty pants has already said... biggrin

I`ve also tidied it up cosmetically. It was looking pretty dog eared so I`ve resprayed the wings, doors, bonnet, new bumper, new splitter, airdam and made some new sideskirts. Still need to do the rear quarters and roof, but I ran out of time.

Engine is unchanged, same Turbo, similar boost as before (between 8 and 12psi) but it`s been on a dyno and is supposedly `safe` at these levels....

I have a nice shiny new set of 6-pots, floating discs etc etc. But they are currently `lost` by Parcel Force, so i`m using the old single pots and some part worn pads. Hey ho. Better than not going !

Slight geometry tweaks and interior mods, but if I hadn`t told you all that, you`d probably think it was the same car as last year, just a bit tidier biggrin

I`m planning on running slicks at the ring for the first time. Used them loads in the UK, I only use part worn slicks, so they are only a bit better than the Pilot Sport Cups, but turn in is certainly improved.

That answer your question ? smile

It`s nice to actually be at the stage where I`m only doing minor bits and pieces now ! Brakes were the last thing to sort, but that`ll have to wait until DN13 instead.

Well the RS4 coped with Snetterton superbly. Just a wash and wax will make her ready for DN12 driving
