Pickups query

Just read on another forum that someone was having trouble fitting a pair of humbuckers. He's right, when you push each screw through the surround, you have to keep the spring compressed while trying to get the screw started in the pickup bracket.

He therefore asked the question:
"Is there a trick for screwing in pickups?"

One of the replies said,
"Yes. Don't get an import with bucket seats, go American with a bench seat and everything should work out OK."

It can be a complete sod to do, although it gets easier every time you do it. I can't explain how I've done it in the past, but I think I try to compress and hold the spring compressed as much as possible when looking to get the screw started.

I tried to do some the other day and just gave up in the end, so this thread came at the right time for me. One sensible suggestion was to use a small crocodile clip to hold the spring in the compressed position long enough to get the screw started.

Another recent thread on the same forum (Strat Talk) asked the question:
"Is dating a Japanese Fender the same as dating a US one?"

Somebody replied,
"No - you have to talk to her dad first."
