I am 54 and generally in good health except for an osteoarthritic hip and consequently am a little concerned about the ECG stress test with regards to the necessity of having to run on a treadmill for ten minutes, not from the cardio fitness angle but purely can my leg take it as the hip problem weakens the leg muscles.

Anyone over 45 taken one recently?

I assume you are talking about the medical requirements for an International Grade C licence? You don't need a Stress ECG for a National A.

I'm fairly sure that you don't need a stress ECG then, that's only for an International C licence. I have just had my medical for a National A licence and definitely no ECG for that, so none required for National B.
All fairly straight forward. My GP did it in about 20 minutes.

If you have any issues or anxieties, ring the MSA and they'll help you through it. They're very helpful and they have a phone line specifically for enquiries like these.

I'm on a drug that's banned by the FIA but they helped through that process, and in the end it all went very easily.

Basically, they don't want to impede people unless it will have consequences for others on track. They're not like the insurance companies who's first answer is no, irrespective of the condition or context.

Hi

I'm 46, have Diabetes type 2 and am doing my ARDS tomorrow! I had my medical done at Racing Medics (in Salfords, near Gatwick) by racing medics. All done in 20 minutes. No ECG required for a National B or A - but you do need if your applying for an international B/A or Super License.

Cheers - and good luck!

A

Got my Pack yesterday and booked my ARDS today.

When reading the pack I noticed that the medical includes questions around mental health past and present. I've suffered from anxiety in the past and was on ADs for about year 3 years ago.

Is this going to cause me a problem? frown

Speak with the MSA - I would say no. But best to chat with them and ask. Who hasn't suffered with stress and anxiety !

No, thats not the type of mental health issue they are concerned about (just as well as no doubt everyone in the MSA has suffered with anxiety)
Further to the treadmill doubts-you do not run, and usually you can get your heart up to speed at the nine minute mark. The test is fifteen minutes, five consecutive sessions of three minutes.Another thing is that some test centers offer the bike cardio test, some, including me, iffy hip from a bike crash years ago, this I find is much easier.
My doctor over here charged €35 and even threw in a quick scan of my hip!

I got my GP to do mine - this was about 10 years ago - he said he'd never done one before and didn't know what MSA expected so he just got me to wave my arms around a bit (to demonstrate I had full movement), colour blindness test, sight test and blood pressure. All done in about 15 mins.

I always fail the peeing in a bottle. Also I have no idea how the skill of getting your pee in a little bottle is at all related to driving a racing car.

It explains requirement on the form....
My GP basically did not want to know and quoted me a "go away" price for doing it despite having easy access to my records.

We moved GP's last year as our old Doc retired(he used to charge me £50), not expecting much I went in to my new GP's last week with my renewal and notes in hand expecting a battle with the receptionist, without a raised eyebrow, she booked me in for a visit last night.
As I sat there last night, I was thinking this was much too easy and when I get to see the GP he will say there was a mistake and send me on my way.
Well 30 mins later and it was all done, he was only going to take a £10 off me, I felt bad and gave him £20.
