My angelfish isn't doing so well.

She's been less bolshy than usual and is lurking about the tank rather than being boss of it. She's gone off her food, and though she comes up for feeding, won't actually eat.

There's maybe a slight hint of swelling round her abdomen but not excessively so, which made me rule out dropsy and swim bladder stuff.

I initially thought constipation but an epsom salt bath didn't help and today I came home to see this hanging out her rear!

That's not just white st, is it??

Is it a tapeworm? Or something else??

At my wits end a bit as I cannot diagnose it for the life of me and don't want to give he wrong treatment...

Any help appreciated.

Bumping for you, I don't know enough about fish to help. Have you Googled 'white faeces in fish' I did and it does suggest some illnesses etc and talk of cleaning out tanks etc. Hope you find a solution.

Thanks Bex!

Yeah, I've had a good Google but as is so often the case, it could be several things and my worry with fish is always giving them the wrong treatment.

Still, my fish shop guy reckoned it looked like early stage dropsy or an internal parasite but probably treatable so I'll try his suggested treatment and see how I get on...

S'weird.

Still there and outwardly looks absolutely fine but she's still more timid than before.

She now shows signs of excitement as before when the lid opens for feeding and even takes a few mouthfuls but seems to spit them out.

She must be taking food somehow but it's a mystery. My last guess is some sort of internal parasite so I have bought some treatment for that and will fire it in over a water change at the weekend.

Bizarre thing!

It doesn't even look ill. No swelling now, and no signs of dropsy. I'm stumped!

White faeces and loss of appetite suggests internal hexamita to me - angelfish and other cichlids particularly prone.
