Jaguar F-Pace spy photos

Well it looks better than the Bentley at least

Yes, yes, there's not a huge amount to be gleaned from this batch of Jaguar F-Pace images. But given all that was released at Detroit was the name and the badge, even to see a heavily camouflaged car is a worthwhile discussion point.

Where's the ruthenium trim gone?

Encouragingly, a lot that looked good about the C-X17 appears to have remained. The front design looks similar and the glasshouse still looks fairly narrow. They may be quite heavily concealed but the lights have a similar F-Type aping design too. The rear overhang is longer than the C-X17 though and, as expected, the dramatic hatch design isn't there.

There's a very early version of the C-X17's interior on display too. It may not be worth reading too much into it just yet but there are some recognisable bits from existing JLR products on show amongst the wires and the Big Red Buttons. Expect a strong XE influence throughout given the F-Pace will also use Jaguar's iQ[Al] aluminium monocoque. The Ingenium engines will surely feature too.

Given the XE is now currently enjoying its time in the limelight and launches in the spring, don't expect to see much official on the F-Pace for a little while yet. When there's more we'll let you know!

I'm sure it will look much better in production form, but still looks pretty bulky.

Following on from the XE thread, hope they get the infotainment right.....

I saw this on the A449 last Saturday.
I also saw the hard top F-Type in camo on the same road, they must like testing around there!

I just don't get it. Surely JLR will be cannibalizing their own LR/RR sales? I guess they have the platform there from the LR/RR, so perhaps the project cost isn't as high as a ground up project would be.

Variety is the fruit of life, so the consumer should only be happy about more choice.

I guess VW have shown that having several apparently competing cars can be profitable. As you say, I'm sure platform sharing is doing its bit to keep down R&D and tooling costs.

It seems like every brand needs an SUV for sales whether they really want one or not. I think it will do well if it can find a niche, perhaps for RR Sport money or less. It will be one of the better looking ones out there.

Ah so that is the ugly thing I saw at the Leamington / M40 roundabout the other day.

I thought it was a facelift for RR / Discovery / Discovery Grand Sport or some such...

The VAG group have 3 versions of the Golf with VW, Skoda & SEAT.. Why would JLR not make several cars from the same architecture?

I believe it's based on the XE platform, not any LR/RR product. Also they claim it will be it is aimed to be better on road than off so maybe not so much overlap.

I guess this will be the talking pie in the UK. The XE is aimed worldwide I suppose. Though I dislike the philosophy and the name - I bet this is a great car.

If we (collectively) find the concept of a Jaguar or Bentley SUV hard to process, wait till the Lotus one arrives... tongue out

Another personal bus for the roads that, as with all other personal buses, I won't be letting out in front of me given the legal choice.

It is not related to the LR/RR and is base on the new Jag Archtecture underpinning the XE and new XF.

Trying to work out what was going on with the IP.

It either looks like a sticker of a VDU stuck on OR rear projection screen onto the flush surface of the IP.
