Golf GTi (Mk6)

So the last car (a 2014 Fiesta ST) didn't last very long as I just could not get along with the ride. The car, however - was excellent and put a huge grin on my face every time I drove it (until I went over a bump!).
Four months on from my purchase and I'd been investigating alternatives for a while. Having settled on a Golf GTi, and setting myself some criteria I set about looking. Being from Reading the selection of cars available to me weren't exactly close, with one in Aberdeen looking particularly lovely (sadly I missed out on that). A couple of weeks ago this popped up on Autotrader and a couple of days later a deal was struck. Having sold my Fiesta last weekend I collected the Golf on Sunday. I've done some 600 miles in it since then (including a 400 mile trip home via some excellent Welsh roads) and it's perfect.
It's plenty quick enough but is much more refined than the Fiesta over bumps but is still managing to put a smile on my face. Coupled with the fact that there don't seem to be *too* many about, I'm loving it. It's got a decent spec, with Xenons, Nav, BT, Cruise etc.
A gratuitious two photographs - sadly about the best I've got right now.

I think the Golf looks a little 'better' in 5-door form, and having owned a 3-door large hatch (307) many years ago my over-riding memory was of how big and heavy/annoying the doors were in car parks. Hence the 5-door Golf!

Interesting comment! One of my primary criteria was June '10 onwards so that it had the LED rears, but this was otherwise perfect so I decided to take the plunge nonetheless.Make sure you retrofit the LED rears on at some point though as they're the best rear lights fitted to any car, ever.
It doesn't look like there is too much effort involved in retro-fitting the LED rears other than getting them coded to the car with VDCS, so I'm sure that it will happen

You've done it the right way round by getting the xenons as standard and then retrofitting the rears given the work needed to fit the xenons and make them MOT passable.

Cheers for your comment! So, I've recently just upgraded it to LED lights. I bought lights from a company called automotive customs on eBay, they came with the cables required to make them work. Having met up with a friend over the weekend we cleared the error code and changed the settings on VDCS. Work perfectly now.
I'll stick up a picture below of before/after.
I've done 3k in the car since I got it towards the end of January now, absolutely love it and it keeps a smile upon my face every day I drive it!

I defo want to do the same at some point. It's the error code etc and getting that side of things sorted which "scares" me as I am not good with things like that..

One question...how do you find the gear change in your car? . My manual is not as smooth as I expected...but garage says that's normal, and a lot of chat on forums say to expect a notchy change with manuals. Any one heard the same?

There are plenty of people on here and VW Vortex who'll help you out with the VDCS coding - it's really easy and took about 3 minutes to cure.I defo want to do the same at some point. The gear change is a little notchy but nothing terrible!
