Ive been looking at getting something a bit swifter than my current steed & saw a classic Italian Olmo up for grabs.

Spec looks like:

Steel framed
Shimano mix
Sis levers
105 rear
mavic ma2 wheels
flight saddle

paint damage & signs of use circa 2001

Anyone know much about Olmo & also what should i be paying for something like this?

many thanks

I bought an Olmo off Ebay two years ago for £500. It is a 90's aluminium frame, and came with new Campag wheels and mainly new groupset, although it was "bitsa" Campag. I think it rides really well, and it's nice having something not mainstream.

I've done over 10000 miles on it, and love it. I'm looking at a new carbon-framed bike as a 50th birthday treat, and have told the missus I will sell the Olmo to part fund the new one. Maybe...

I know a little about classic Olmos, having ridden a 89 Anniversary columbus sl model a lot, and rebuilt a lower grade San Remo columbus cromoly as well.

They´re made in Milan.

Nice bikes. Lovely finish, normally loads of blingy pantographed parts, don´t get hung up on what grade of Columbus steel it has as the differences are impossible to tell on the road. Rust can be a problem with older steel bikes, check the FD braze on and the BB area. If it fits you it´ll be a lovely springy ride.

Without seeing photos of the bike in question, and an idea of what the seller is asking as well as a specific run down of its components, I couldn´t hazard a guess at value.

Comparable to Bianchi in that era. Proper Italian stage geometry. Their older (70s/80s) steel bikes were nicer.

If the size is right and condition good, I'd not hesitate to buy in the EUR 3-400 range.

Edit: Shame about the Shimano bits though.
